July 18, 2001

According to press reports, someone plans to participate in the Hong Kong Book Fair (July 18-23) and hold exhibitions under the name of "Falun Dafa /Falun Gong." The Hong Kong Association of Falun Dafa (The Association) hereby solemnly declares:

All activities held within the Hong Kong Book Fair 2001 shall have nothing to do with the Association, nor shall they have anything to do with Falun Dafa, Hong Kong or overseas Falun Dafa practitioners. We advise the general public to be cautious of people with ulterior motives holding activities by stealing the name of "Falun Dafa/Falun Gong."

Last year, someone through a company owned by herself used the name of Falun Dafa (Falun Gong / Falun Buddha Fa) without permission to participate in the Book Fair. She displayed and sold Falun Dafa books and other materials during the Fair without proper authorization from the legal distributor in Hong Kong. With the intention to promote herself, this person conducted herself in a manner totally inconsistent with the spirit of Falun Dafa. During the event, she took advantage of the media and created the wrong impression that she represented Falun Dafa. Shortly before last year's Book Fair, with the participation of suspicious personnel from Mainland China, she and her followers repeatedly stirred up troubles in Lantau Island and Happy Valley under the name of Falun Dafa and Falun Gong practitioners. They disrupted public order and brought about a very negative impact on the local communities. Their actions led uninformed people to misunderstand and hold prejudice against Falun Dafa, causing serious harm to the reputation of Falun Dafa and its founder. Although the Association tried its best to clarify the issues with the public at that time, it was still difficult to repair the damage already caused.

Together with all Falun Dafa practitioners, the Association condemns the repeated theft of the name of "Falun Dafa" by those people with ulterior motives. The Association also condemns their immoral conduct of disrupting public order and causing damage to Falun Dafa. The very few followers who were deceived and followed that person last year have all realized what really went on, and broke away from her. These individuals have also spoken out against her derogatory deeds. She and her associates shall bear all the consequences resulting from their actions. The Association reserves the right to further pursue this issue.

In order to be responsible to Falun Dafa, to its practitioners and to the society, the Association alerts all people to be on their guard and not confuse those impostors with genuine practitioners of Falun Dafa, therefore avoiding unnecessary damage. If residents of Hong Kong have any queries on the Falun Dafa related books or other products purchased at the Fair, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Chan at 2311-6962 for clarification.
