Locusts in Hainan Province Wreak Havoc


(Clearwisdom.net) According to the news from the Central News Net, the disaster region in Danzhou City, Hainan Province caused by the East Asian migratory locust, has recently spread to the sugar cane and rice paddy fields in the suburbs of Danzhou City. The total disaster area totals 66,500 Chinese acres [about 11,000 acres], and the total area under control totals 37,000 Chinese acres.

The news regarding southern China in [state run] The People's Daily said that the average density of insects is 10 to 15 insects per square meter [11 square feet]; namely, each Chinese acre has 6,667 to 10,000 insects. Because the locust disaster often occurs in the remote mountainous area, transportation is very inconvenient and the budget to exterminate locusts is seriously insufficient.
