Falun Gong Practitioner Zhang Zhenfu, about 60 Years Old, from Heilongjiang Province Dies from Force-feeding

(Clearwisdom.net) Practitioner Zhang Zhenfu, male, about 60 years old, was taken away from home during the day on January 2, 2002, by police from Shengli Police Station, Hegang City, Heilongjiang Province. On the same night, police lay in wait near his home and arrested his son Zhang Tingfan, another Falun Gong practitioner. Both father and son were detained in the local detention center.

Zhang Zhenfu went on a hunger strike right after being illegally detained. On January 4, he died during a brutal force-feeding session. However, police claimed that they sent Zhang for emergency medical treatment and denied the incident.

Under the tremendous pressure, Zhang's relatives dare not raise any objections. The local police have proposed to release the son, Zhang Tingfan, in exchange for the family's silence.

According to inside sources, these arrests were made as part of a citywide joint action of the police substations, which will last for 100 days. The other police stations in the city are also arresting practitioners and ransacking their homes. Around New Year's Day, more than 20 practitioners have been arrested. Practitioners are usually detained in No. 2 Detention Center or the Administrative Detention Center of Hegang City Public Security Bureau. Most of the practitioners arrested were detained in No. 2 Detention Center, where there is only one room for female inmates. The room is extremely crowded.
