The Relentless Persecution of A Professor and Her Family in Chongqing City
11/13/02
(Clearwisdom.net) Gu Zhiyi is an associate professor and a veteran Falun
Gong practitioner in Chongqing City. The police illegally arrested her on July
20, 1999. After being detained for over thirteen months, she was illegally
sentenced to three years in prison plus an additional four years of probation.
Within twenty days after she went back home, the police began harassing her to
attend brainwashing classes. Meanwhile, her husband suffered from paralysis and
his health was in danger. She had to send her husband to their daughter's home
after emergency treatment. Because Gu Zhiyi firmly resisted their unreasonable
demands, the police started to harass Gu's younger daughter. On various
occasions, the police arrested her at her workplace and tried to extort a
confession that she had mailed truth clarification materials about Falun Gong to
others. Gu and her daughter refused to collaborate with the police.
Zhang Quanliang, Gu's son in law, was detained fifteen days because he went
to Beijing to appeal. One night when he was meditating by a tree outside the
ward where he had taken care of his endangered father in law for days, the
security guard saw him and sent him to a detention center. On September 30,
2000, the police ordered Zhang Quanliang and his wife to report to the local
police station. They had a clear knowledge that they would be detained there if
they went, so the couple hurried up after saying goodbye to their two year-old
son, their recovering father and their mother who had just been released from
jail. They were forced to become destitute and homeless. Because Zhang Quanliang
went to Beijing to appeal again by the end of December 2000, he was arrested and
sentenced to three years in a forced labor camp. At present he is illegally
imprisoned in the Xishanping Forced Labor Camp.
As confirmed by people who were just released from the forced labor camp,
Zhang Quanliang refused to write the so called "Three Statements", so the police
had over a dozen drug addicts take turns keeping a close watch over him. He is
suffering all kinds of tortures and is on the verge of death, but the police do
not allow Gu Zhiyi to visit him. Gu Zhiyi has to raise the family alone, and
take care of her disabled husband, sickly daughter and young grandson.
Here we are calling our fellow practitioners over the world to help Zhang
Quanliang, who is imprisoned in the Xishanping Forced Labor Camp, Chongqing City.
