Changchun City, Jilin Province -- At around 8 p.m. on March 5, 2002, eight channels on Changchun's cable television network began broadcasting Falun Gong truth-clarifying programs such as "Falun Dafa Spreads Throughout the World" and "Self-Immolation or Deception?" The broadcast went on uninterrupted for forty to fifty minutes. This incident sent shockwaves throughout Mainland China.

Sources indicate that at around 8 p.m., as several hundred thousand watched regular network programming, suddenly eight channels that were broadcasting movies, news and financial shows changed to Falun Gong truth-clarifying programming. Shots of the founder of Falun Gong and scenes of group practice by disciples all over the world unexpectedly appeared in front of many Mainland television viewers. Reactions ranged from surprise to fear, from excitement to shock. Some viewers even thought it was a special advertising program and were confused by it. Undoubtedly, people's hearts were greatly shaken. According to reports from overseas media, cable television stations in Sichuan and Liaoning provinces experienced similar situations.

According to documents, Changchun City Cable Television Network Company was formerly Changchun Cable Television Station, under the jurisdiction of Changchun City Television Broadcasting Bureau. It is the cable television station with the widest coverage in Changchun. Currently the network has 300,000 subscribers, reaching over 1 million viewers. Programming includes feeds from CCTV (Chinese Central TV), Jilin Province, Changchun City and provincial satellite television programs, encompassing 32 channels in all.

According to recent internal reports from Mainland China, on the eve of the Chinese New Year, the Changchun City Public Security Bureau conducted a large-scale arrest of Falun Gong practitioners on successive nights. The order given at the time was: If Falun Gong practitioners are discovered in the act of putting up posters or hanging up banners, the police can shoot to kill. Clearwisdom.net has previously reported incidents of Falun Gong practitioners being shot in Mishan City, Heilongjiang Province and Anshan City, Liaoning Province. On February 16, 2002, mere days after the Chinese New Year, Anshan City policemen opened fire on three practitioners while conducting an illegal arrest. One policeman fired four shots in succession, wounding one practitioner's leg. Mishan City policeman Du Yongshan discovered practitioner Jiang Honglu posting truth-clarifying literature at around 2 a.m. on February 12, the first day of the Chinese New Year. Du opened fire, hitting and breaking Jiang's leg.

Sources revealed that one of the leaders of the national "610 Office," Liu Jing, held a meeting regarding the persecution of Falun Gong shortly before the Chinese New Year. (The "610 Office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems). During the meeting, Liu Jing angrily criticized Jilin Province's lack of effectiveness in the persecution and gave a strict order to "completely eliminate" Falun Gong. This meeting was where the infamous "shoot to kill" order was given.

Clearwisdom.net has verified details of over 375 deaths since the persecution of Falun Gong in China began in 1999. Government officials inside China, however, report that the actual death toll is well over 1,600.

This widespread broadcast of the Falun Gong truth-clarifying programming in Mainland China, regardless of who was responsible, has materially broken through the information blockade imposed by the Jiang criminal group against the Chinese people. This was an extraordinary display of righteousness and courage. According to accounts, this incident has shocked the highest levels of the Chinese central government leadership as well as every level of the state terrorist organization, the infamous "610 Office."
