(Clearwisdom.net) BBC, May 24 -- Reports from Beijing say that more than 20 million people have been hit by severe floods in the central province of Hunan. 14 Cities and 71 Counties in Hunan Province have been affected.

Severe floods have been frequent in China in recent years.

According to the report, some parts of the province have had 40 days of rain since the beginning of April. Some other parts were attacked by tornados and hail.

According to Hunan Daily, 2,540,000 hectares of crops have been affected by the floods. Harvests in 590,000 hectares have been completely ruined.

According to China's official media, the economic loss directly caused by the floods has reached $943 million.

It is reported that the authorities have arranged to relieve people from the disaster. Emergency aid of $2 million has been allocated to the most seriously affected areas. Last week, China's official media reported that residents, armies and local governments in the Changjiang River area have already made preparations to prevent floods that might occur this summer.
