Dalian City Police Detain an Elderly Handicapped Woman's Caregiver

(Clearwisdom.net) On April 25, 2002, Police from Dalian City Ganjingzi District's Airport Area Police Station arrested Dafa practitioner Yu Pingzhu in her business, a small convenience store. Her home was ransacked and she is currently being detained at Yaojia Detention Center. For the past 25 years she had been the caregiver for a disabled woman, now 84 years old.

When Xiao Lifang, the disabled 84-year-old woman who lives with Yu Pingzhu, heard this devastating news, her health began to deteriorate. She anxiously awaits Yu Pingzhu's return home. Yu Pingzhu has cared for Xiao Lifang for about 25 years and had treated her like her own mother.

Yu Pingzhu is widely known as a compassionate person. Twenty-five years ago, a car accident disabled Xiao Lifang, an elderly unmarried woman from Daxinzhaizi Village, Ganjing District, Dalian City. Yu Pingzhu, a fellow villager who at the time was pregnant, offered to take Xiao Lifang into her home to care for her daily needs. This altruistic decision, to care for an elderly woman not related to her in any way, triggered friction in her family. Her husband eventually divorced her when their son was one year old. She was left alone to take care of both the baby and the old woman. Before she remarried, she made it clear to her future husband that he must accept responsibility to care for Xiao Lifang. Sixteen years ago, a good man from Xiaoxinzhaizi Village married Yu Pingzhu, and together they took responsibility to care for Xiao Lifang.

After she started practicing Falun Gong, Yu Pingzhu followed the principles of Zhen-Shan-Ren [Truth-Compassion-Forbearance]and became an even better person. Cultivation freed her from disease and provided her the ability and energy to care for her unique family with three different last names. In July 1999, she was detained for 19 days following her trip to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa. In April 25, 2002, she was arrested for the second time.

The persecution has made it impossible for her to lead a normal family life. Her husband has had to shoulder all the responsibilities. In addition to his day job, he has to manage the convenience shop, their son and the elderly lady, not to mention the heavy psychological stress he must suffer.

If in today's society a good person is not respected, but is instead persecuted, who will want to be a good person in the future? If we don't stand up for what's right, what kind of society will our future generations live in?

We appeal to the China Women's Association and other kind-hearted people to help end the terrible situation that Yu Pingzhu's family is experiencing.
