1. [Dingxing County Hebei Province] Police Have Arrested More Than 100 Falun Dafa Practitioners

From the beginning of 2002 to mid August, the police in Dingxing County illegally arrested more than 100 Falun Dafa practitioners. The practitioners have been held in prisons and maltreated.

2. [Baiyin City, Gansu Province] After the Truth-clarification Broadcast, the Chinese Public Security Ministry and Gansu Provincial Department of Public Security Forced Baiyin City Policemen to Terrorize Dafa Practitioners

After the truth clarification program was successfully broadcast in Baiyin City, Gansu Province, the Chinese Public Security Ministry and the Gansu Provincial Department of Public Security all sent staff to Baiyin City to put pressure on the local police. It has been learned that female Falun Dafa practitioner Wang Xiaocai was taken away from her home by the police and held in Baiyin City Prison. Her house was illegally searched and property confiscated. Her son has suffered severe injuries because of the persecution by the police. Now he travels from place to place in order to avoid arrest. Dafa practitioner Chang Jubing became destitute and homeless about two months ago because of the persecution by the police. His house was illegally searched and property confiscated. His wife who does not practice Falun Gong was also taken in to the public security bureau and detained for one day. Other practitioners in the area have all suffered from harassment or threat to various degrees.

3. [China] Grassroots Office Workers: It is Jiang Who Wants to Destroy Himself

Recently the police sub-stations, the neighbourhood committees and work units all over the country received orders to check and register all people who practiced Falun Gong. Even those who stated that they would not practice Falun Gong anymore and those who were forced to write "three kinds of letters" (A letter of guarantee pledging not to practice Falun Gong, a letter of repentance and a letter of disassociating with Falun Gong) have again been asked to write or sign a letter of guarantee. They should also hand in a photo. Those who refused to write or sign the letter of guarantee or refuse to hand in a picture of themselves are harassed regularly. This kind of harassment has disturbed the normal life of the local residents.

The office workers at the grassroots level all know that Falun Dafa practitioners are good people, after three years of coming into contact with Dafa practitioners. However their superiors forced them to mistreat Falun Dafa practitioners so they suffer from a lot of mental pressure. One official said openly to Dafa practitioners: "Jiang likes to practice fraud and deception but Falun Gong never tells lies. Now they even force others to tell lies. Speaking about not practicing Falun Gong, does anyone really stop practicing? I think it is not Falun Gong that wants to destroy Jiang, but in fact it is actually Jiang who wants to destroy himself."

4. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] The "610 Office" of the Changchun Area in Jilin Province Persecutes Dafa Practitioners and Their Families

The local police substations and neighbourhood committees recently harassed many family members of Dafa practitioners in Changchun City, Yushu City and the surrounding country. They brought with them the pre-written "Letters of Guarantee" to practitioners' homes. If the Dafa practitioners did not cooperate with the evil or were not at home, then these vicious people would deceive the kind-hearted family members or threaten them with arrest, jail sentences, fines or brainwashing. Many family members signed the "Letter of Guarantee" under those circumstances.

5. [Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province] Several Falun Dafa Practitioners Have Recently Been Arrested

Police arrested female Falun Dafa practitioner Yang Guixia on July 24 while she was posting truth-clarification material at Dongfeng New Residential Quarter, Daqing City. She was sent to Daqing Prison and is still held there although the time limit for custody is long past.

Female Dafa practitioner Li Guilian from Babaishang, Daqing City was illegally taken away from her home and her whereabouts are still unknown. The police arrested Fan Jianshe one evening for taking down banners that slandered Falun Dafa. He is now most likely being held at Honggang District prison.

Dafa practitioner Sun Gang and another male practitioner were illegally arrested by the police at the entrance of the Qingkelong Super Market of Dongfeng New Residential Quarter on August 25^th. In the evening of the same day, a house in Dongfeng New Residential Quarter where practitioners in exile were staying was searched and four practitioners were arrested and a computer was confiscated. The loss exceeded ten thousand Yuan. The whereabouts of these practitioners are still unknown.

6. [Yingcheng City, Hubei Province] Record of Crimes Committed by Collaborators

[Note: Collaborators are former Falun Gong practitioners who have gone astray due to brainwashing and torture and help to persecute the steadfast practitioners.]

Rao Xuming, male, works at the police sub-station in Huangtan Town. The provincial "610 Office" took him to a brainwashing center where, under the intense pressure, he betrayed the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance. He then started to help the "610 Office" persecute the steadfast Falun Dafa practitioners. This has inflicted heavy losses on the local Fa rectification. Under his influence, his wife has also become a collaborator.

8. [Shanghai] Movie and TV Series That Slander Falun Dafa Broadcast in Shanghai

On August 20, the Xinwen Evening News reported that after a movie that slandered Falun Dafa had its premier in Shanghai, a TV series of a similar nature was broadcast as well. Local officials had a reception for both production teams.

9. [Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province] Local "610 Office" Officials Throw Practitioners into Masanjia Forced Labor Camp

On July 15, local authorities organized a third brainwashing session, forcing 14 practitioners to participate in it. On the morning of July 15, local police and the "610 Office" forcibly took female practitioner Wang Lifeng to the brainwashing session. As Wang refused to be brainwashed, she was sent to Jinzhou No. 2 Detention Center. The 610 officials went there many times in an attempt to transform her. Wang remained firm in her belief, and continued clarifying the truth to the "610 Office" staff. However, on August 23, local officials and the head of "610 Office" illegally sent her to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp for two years, along with three other practitioners. The fourth brainwashing session started on August 22. So far, two practitioners were able to walk out of it with righteous thoughts.

10. [Guangdong Province] The Institute of Highway Exploration, Planning and Design Persecutes Falun Dafa Practitioners

Ou Honghui, arrested in October 2001, was illegally sent to forced labor camp.

Li Jianzhong, an engineer, went to Beijing in June 2000 and was arrested at his workplace on January 3, 2001. After going through brainwashing for about 13 months, he was released in February 2002. He lived on the street for about three months, until he was reported missing after going out to distribute truth-clarifying materials at the end of May 2002. No one has heard from him since that time.

11. [Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province] Party Secretary of No. 2 Mine of No. 1 Oil Explorations Factory Sent Practitioner Zhao Hongbo to Detention Center For the Second Time

In December 2000, Zhang Jixian, Party Secretary of Daqing No.2 Mine of No.1 Oil Explorations Factory learned that one of his staff members, Ms. Zhao Hongbo went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa, when Zhao's husband was escorted back from Beijing where he too had appealed. Zhao Hongbo was summarily sent to a detention center.

In August 2002, Zhao Hongbo handed three VCDs with truth-clarifying information about Falun Gong to her colleagues, but was reported. Zhang Jixian brought in the local police to arrest her at her workplace. These days, Zhao's three-year-old son goes with his grandma everyday to the workplace to ask for his mom.

12. [Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province] Criminal Activities of Local "610 Office" Headed by Pei Hua

Between May 2001 and May 12, 2002, the local "610 Office" headed by Pei Hua organized three brainwashing sessions, mobilizing local police and officials to forcibly take Falun Gong practitioners to the brainwashing center, forcing the practitioners to pay 200 Yuan (Chinese currency, average Chinese urban worker's wage is around 500 Yuan) for food and 1000 Yuan as a guarantee [not to practice or appeal] deposit. Those who did not comply were sent to a detention center or forced labor camp.

13. [Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province] Practitioners Maltreated at Guangzhou No. 1 Forced Labor Camp

A special working group from the Bureau of Forced Labor Education of the Guangdong provincial government and a special commissioner from Beijing were stationed at the Guangzhou No.1 Forced Labor Camp, to intimidate and torture practitioners.

Perpetrators:

Director Zhou used electric batons and hot pepper juice to torture practitioners, instigated inmates to beat them, ignored practitioners who are on hunger strike, as well as other tricks to force practitioners to give up Falun Gong,.

Chen Guitian, officer of No. 5 Section, known for his brutality at the forced labor camp, hung a practitioner out in the sun for 4 months, not allowing his toes to touch the ground and exposing him to insects and mosquitoes for dozens of hours as well as rain and sun. He also instigated other inmates to mistreat practitioners.

Yang, an officer from No.9 Section instigated inmates to beat up practitioners and put them in solitary confinement. One practitioner suffered injuries to his spine as a result of the beating.

14. [Liaozhong County, Liaoning Province] County Party Secretary Persecutes Falun Gong Practitioners

Zhao Kuili, Party Secretary of Liaozhong County Government, and his predecessor Ma Baozhong, used local cable TV to spread slanderous lies about Falun Gong and to brainwash people. Between July 22 1999 and August 25 2002, more than 100 practitioners were arrested in the county. Some were arrested more than once. They were subjected to illegal fines, detention and forced labor among other things. In mid-August 2002, a brainwashing center was set up in Ciyutuo Township. Around 3:00 in the morning of August 19, local officials and police stormed into people's homes and looked for Falun Gong practitioners in Chengzhen, Chengjiao, Changtan, and Liujianfang townships. Some practitioners escaped with righteous thoughts; some managed to stay and avoid arrest because of their family members' resistance, and some were taken away. It has been confirmed that nine people are being held in the brainwashing center. Those evil perpetrators claimed that they would continue to hold brainwashing sessions. They also encouraged collaborators such as Xue Tianzuo and Zhang Yongsheng to commit crimes.
