Chinese Consulate Persecutes a Chinese Doctor in the UK - An Eyewitness Account

Zhao Liping is a doctor of Chinese medicine and a Falun Gong practitioner. Because the clinic she is working at is under pressure from the Chinese Consulate in Edinburgh, she was forced to resign on October the 4th 2003.

Originally Miss Zhao was a doctor in Beijing. In December 2001, she arrived in the UK to work. In November 2002, she was hired as an acupuncturist at a Chinese medical clinic in Edinburgh. Her 17-year-old daughter also came to the UK and this September she started three years of academic studies at Manchester University.

In Beijing 1998, Miss Zhao started to practice Falun Gong, a traditional Chinese cultivation method similar to Tai Chi and Yoga. Miss Zhao lives by the principles of Falun Gong, "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance." At the clinic, she was widely recognized as a good doctor. This September, Miss Zhao was surprised to get a letter from the clinic manager. The letter read, "We are not opposed to your Falun Gong activities. But we ask you to stop mentioning Falun Gong at the clinic." One week later, in a dialogue with the clinic boss, Miss Zhao discovered that the clinic had received a warning letter from the Chinese consulate.

Regarding the pressure that the Chinese consulate put on her boss, Miss Zhao said, "I have done nothing wrong. I am a Chinese doctor. It is natural for me to introduce Falun Gong to my patients. Falun Gong effectively helps people to gain physical and mental health, which is a well-known fact among people. I have practiced Falun Gong for many years and have benefited a lot from my cultivation." "The persecution of Falun Gong by the Chinese government has lasted for four years. Undoubtedly I would be forced out of my job if I mentioned Falun Gong at my office in China. But to my great surprise, this kind of thing is happening in the UK".

Miss Zhao concluded, "It is shameless for the Chinese consulate to extend the Jiang regime's persecution of Falun Gong overseas." She hopes that more people around the world understand the facts of the persecution of Falun Gong, stand up to support the victims and call for an end to the persecution.
