Falun Gong Practitioner and Her Family Arrested and Robbed by Police in Huili County, Sichuan Province

Cui Deli, a 62-year-old female, is a resident of the 5^th section of Shaba Village, Huili County, Sichuan Province.

After attaining the Fa, Ms. Cui regained her health as she was cured of chronic diseases. She also transformed into a gentle woman and now gets along well with her family and neighbors. Due to Ms. Cui's steadfast belief in practicing Falun Gong, after July 20^th, 1999, local police extorted money from her, confiscated her home and took away her freedom. Despite suffering from all of this unreasonable treatment, Ms. Cui did not harbor any bitterness against the police. Instead she continuously improved herself based on the principles of Truthfulness, Benevolence, and Forbearance.

Ms. Cui's daughter and son-in-law, who did not practice Falun Gong, own a transportation business in Kunming City, Yunnan Province. They frequently shipped various goods between the City of Kunming and Huili. In November 2002, Police from Huili County inspected a truckload of shipped goods and found loads of white paper among it. Believing the paper was for the use of Falun Gong truth-clarification material production, the police then did a search at the shipping business in Kunming City. After discovering one hundred and forty thousand Yuan worth of cash for business purposes in a safety box, they threw Ms. Cui's son-in-law in jail for over a week [note: authorities in China routinely confiscate cash and personal savings they find in searches and keep it without issuing official receipts]. What is more, police even jailed and persecuted a non-practitioner Ding Wenyi, a female clerk, for over seven months. The police then later also arrested and persecuted the truck driver who was also not a Falun Gong practitioner. In order to confiscate this substantial amount of cash, the Huili County police falsely accused that the money had been wired from overseas practitioners to support Falun Gong activities in Mainland China. However, they did not find nor present any evidence for their accusations. As it turned out later on, it was found after an audit of the company that every single penny of that one hundred and forty thousand Yuan belonged to specific owners that did business with the company.

In December 2002, after police had jailed the clerk Ding Wenyi, Ms. Cui's daughter had to then substitute for Ding. However, because of being unfamiliar with the area, Ms. Cui's daughter was not only robbed of one hundred and thirty thousand Yuan of business funds, but was also stabbed twice by the robbers. After the crime was reported the local police left the case untouched and took no action. Only when a local newspaper reporter was ready to publicize the incident did the local police start an investigation. However, to this date the criminals are still at large.

By that time Ms. Cui's family was over three hundred thousand Yuan in debt and creditors were paying them daily visits demanding to be quickly repaid. The entire family was suffering from this suddenly unexpected disaster, spending each day in extreme misery.

Feeling helpless, Ms. Cui's family went to visit the Huili County Police Department and demanded back the business funds that the police had illegally confiscated from them. However, for over six months the police did not respond to the family's request. In May 2003, the Huili County police unwillingly returned one hundred thousand Yuan after learning that the family was going to borrow money to hire a lawyer in order to file a lawsuit against them. The police still kept forty thousand Yuan as a penalty without issuing a receipt.

Currently, Ms. Cui's family is still under a huge financial debt, which has caused various conflicts among the members of the family. Having received such unfair treatment from their local police, to whom can this family turn for help?

News about this situation has spread all over town. Everyone knows about it. Upon hearing the truth about this situation kind-hearted people all felt an injustice had been done to Ms. Cui and her family. The root cause of this unjust treatment comes from Jiang's evil persecution against Falun Gong and Falun Gong practitioners. I hope all kind-hearted people unite to uphold justice and put a stop to this evil persecution that has caused the world numerous tragedies.
