Ms. He Yingqing was a senior mathematics lecturer of Biology and Electrical Engineering at Technique College in Changsa city. To advance their careers, the administration of the college collaborated with Zhao Jinyue (the Party Committee Secretary of the Baimalong Female Forced Labor Camp), Ding Cailan (The head of the brigade dedicated to judge Falun Gong practioners), and policewoman Yuan Jia to send Ms. He to the Brainwashing Center. They tried to force her to give up her belief in Falun Gong. Ms. He was detained for 14 months.

Ms. He was unmoved by the torture she suffered in the Brainwashing Center and was sent to Baimalong Female Forced Labor Camp. The policemen and prison guards kept her awake by applying a special ointment (containing mint oil, camphor oil, eucalyptus oil, ammonia water) to her head or slapping her face. She broke though the torture with her strong righteous thoughts. Afterwards the prison guards directed about 10 drug criminal prisoners to force her to write the so-called "Guarantee Statement" [A statement to declare that he or she is remorseful for practicing Falun Gong and guarantees not to practice Falun Gong again, not to go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, and never again associate with any Falun Dafa practitioners.] by holding her hands. She refused to cooperate with the demands of the evil policemen and was made to stand for 8 days. After that she was sent to the so-called shock brigade [a special unit that inflicts intense torture on those steadfast Falun Gong practitioners]. There she was handcuffed for 6 days without sleep. She was forced into a different torture posture each day and allowed to use the bathroom only twice a day. She is still illegally detained in the shock brigade and no one knows if she is still alive.

The full name of the shock brigade is the "Educating and Reforming Shock Brigade." It was founded in July 2002. It includes two special police force members, 5 policewomen, and over 10 prisoners. Zheng Xia, the head of the prison, even participated in some secret training session [of torturing]. Four prison cells serve as their torture chamber. They detain one practitioner in each cell. The means of torturing are shocking. They handcuff the practitioners on the iron bed and don't allow them to sleep. The practitioners are required to stand in a specific pose without moving. They would beat and kick the practitioner if the practitioner failed to stand still.

Ms. Yu Ying from Zhuzhou city was not allowed to sleep for 10 days. During that time, she lost consciousness twice and her hands were swollen from the handcuffs. Many practitioners went on hunger strikes to protest their illegal detention. The Forced Labor Camp sent all the practitioners on hunger strikes to the shock brigade. They were force fed every half hour. The policemen used a spoon to smash practitioners' mouths and chopsticks to pry their teeth open. Ms. Chen Yilan from Changde city had a puncture in her esophagus and lost her two front teeth from the chopsticks torture. Ms. Chen Yilan also had a broken leg from beatings. The practitioners were forced to write the rules of the forced labor camp many times and to weave a few pair of shoes from straw every day. If a practitioner could not get that work done, then she would be handcuffed or not allowed to sleep.

In the second half of October, Ms. Chen Ouxiang from Pinjiang county, Yueyang city was tortured to death during her first week in the shock brigade. She is not the only practitioner tortured to death in the shock brigade. The policemen extended the detention terms of all steadfast practitioners using ridiculous excuses. For example, they extended Ms. Luo Xiaoqiong's term for 3 months because she said, "Falun Dafa is good". New practitioners are forced into intense marathon-like brainwashing sessions. They swore at the practitioners all day long and forced them to read and watch material defaming Falun Gong. A few practitioners were even given psychiatric drugs intravenously.
