Proclamation of Falun Dafa Month, City of Medford, Massachusetts [November 2003]

(Clearwisdom.net) Mayor Michael J. McGlynn of the City of Medford proclaimed the month of November, 2003 as "Falun Dafa Month" in the City of Medford, Massachusetts.

Whereas, Falun Dafa, otherwise known as Falun Gong is a peaceful practice of gentle exercises and meditation that promotes physical health and spiritual well-being; and

Whereas, Falun Dafa, with its adherence to the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance, improves relationships among family members, friends, co-workers and cultural groups, and in so doing, improves the moral content of society's character; and

Whereas, Falun Dafa has helped million of practitioners in over 60 countries to achieve personal well-being and become more productive members of society; and

Whereas, The Government of the People's Republic of China has outlawed the practice of Falun Gong in China has initiated a campaign of persecution and terror against its peaceful adherents, and has systematically attempted to eradicate the practice and those who follow it; and

Whereas, Persecuted and harassed Falun Dafa practitioners have endured these continued wrongdoings with peaceful appeals, legal procedures, and compassion in their hearts toward their oppressors, thereby exemplifying the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance; and

Whereas, Several United States citizens have been subjected to arbitrary detention, imprisonment, and torture in the People's Republic of China; and

Whereas, The People's Republic of China, through its embassies around the world, has interfered with, attempted to discredit, and harassed Falun Dafa practitioners in every country, including the United States and the state of Massachusetts, where Falun Dafa is peacefully practiced; and

Whereas, This brutal crackdown on the practitioners of Falun Dafa denies the basic human rights of freedom of belief, assembly, and expression.

Now, Therefore, I Michael J. McGlynn, Mayor, of the City of Medford, do hereby proclaim the month of November, 2003 as,

In the City of Medford.
