A Brief Discussion of Staying Calm Inside One's Heart By a Dafa practitioner in China (Clearwisdom.net) It is not only a xinxing (moral character) issue but
also a reflection of one's cultivation level whether one is able to stay calm
inside ones' heart when one is in tribulation, when one's personal interests are
infringed, or when one sees one's relatives and good friends amidst suffering.
Therefore, "staying calm inside" is the condensation of a cultivator's
cultivation as well as the result of the cultivator's righteous mind and
righteous actions. It is something an ordinary person can never achieve. To be able to stay calm inside during Fa-rectification cultivation practice,
one must primarily take oneself truly as a cultivator, always follow what Master
and Dafa have required, and keep studying the Fa and cultivating one's
xinxing. Only then can one be able to achieve the state of "Steadfastly cultivate Dafa, the will unflinching." ("True Nature
Revealed," Essentials for Further Advancement II) "When a tribulation arrives, if you, a disciple, can truly maintain an
unshakable calm or be determined to meet different requirements at different
levels, this should be sufficient for you to pass the test." ("Expounding on
the Fa," Essentials for Further Advancement) For example, in the midst of the vicious persecution, if a Dafa practitioner
can truly let go of life and death, and strengthen his righteous thoughts, the
evil would not be able to do a thing. During the Sixteenth People's Congress,
there was a Dafa practitioner whom the "610 Office" specifically wanted to put
into a brainwashing class. The department responsible for his work cooperated
with the evil. They went to his home several days in row to try to convince him
to enter the brainwashing "class" voluntarily. The practitioner determinedly negated all the old forces' arrangements. He
told them the facts about the persecution he had undergone. He stayed calm
inside, had no other thoughts, resisted the evil, and his heart was as firm as
diamond. In the end, the evil simply had no way to make him give in, and had to
leave the issue unsettled. There was another practitioner. The police went his home to ask him to write
the "repentance statement."* Afraid of getting arrested, he left home and hid
himself in different places. In the end, the evil would call wherever he went.
He had no time to study the Fa and his effort of validating Dafa was affected. Being able to truly stay calm inside is a reflection of a practitioner's
cultivation level. Therefore, one has to cultivate one's own heart, cultivate
one's inner self, and take efforts in cultivating the heart. "I'm going to tell you that no matter what kind of conflicts arise, or
what kind of situations emerge, it's bound to be that we have gaps in
ourselves. That's for sure. If there weren't a gap nobody could exploit it."
("Teaching and Explaining the Fa at the Metropolitan New York Fa
Conference") There is a female Dafa practitioner who is very diligent in her cultivation.
She often goes out to distribute Dafa truth-clarification materials. Once when
she was giving out the materials in a neighborhood, she failed to pay attention
to the surroundings. She was followed by a bad person and thus taken to the
police station. She was not scared at all and stayed calm and confident. She first tried to find the loopholes she had. She found that she had a
strong ordinary people's mentality. That is to say, she always emphasized the
quantity she gave out, and failed to give enough consideration from the
perspective of saving people and resisting the persecution, which enabled the
evil to exploit her loophole. Thereafter, she negated the old forces'
arrangements. She eliminated the evil by sending forth righteous thoughts and
she asked Master to help her. She walked out of the police station in a
dignified manner. It is very important for Dafa practitioners to have righteous hearts, and
only then can Dafa practitioners rectify anything that is not righteous. "As I've said, everything that happens today in the ordinary society is
the result of Dafa disciples' thoughts. Even though the old forces do exist,
if you don't have those thoughts they can't do anything. When your righteous
thoughts are strong enough the old forces can't do a thing." ("Teaching the
Fa at the 2002 Fa Conference in Philadelphia, U.S.A.") Along the path of the Fa-rectification, we must walk our own way well, let go
of ordinary people's mentalities, truly give up the various attachments and
desires that we have, hold up our xinxing well, not let the evil take
advantage our loopholes, and cultivate ourselves into true, pure, and unselfish
beings with the righteous Fa and righteous Enlightenment. * The "repentance statement:" in this statement the practitioner is forced to
admit remorse for practicing Falun Gong, promise to give up Falun Gong, and
never again associate with other practitioners or go to Beijing to appeal for
