Congress of the United States
House of Representatives
Washington, DC 20515-1005

November 26, 2003

His Excellency Wen Jiabao
Prime Minister of the People's Republic of China
Zhong Nanhai, Beijing
People's Republic of China 100006

Mr. Prime Minister:

I am writing to you to express my deepest concern regarding the imprisonment of Ms. Zhou Xuefei, the wife of Sam (Zhaohui) Lu who resides in my Congressional district in Atlanta, Georgia.

Ms. Zhou Xuefei was arrested in the city of Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, in November 2000 for witnessing her Falun Gong faith and was sentenced to three years in forced labor without benefit of trial. Currently, Ms. Zhou remains detained in the Guangdong Women's Forced Labor Camp in Sanshui, despite the fact that her three-year sentence ended on November 14, 2003.

As a result of torture, forced labor, and malnutrition during her three years in the labor camp, Ms. Zhou's eyesight has severely deteriorated, leaving her almost blind. Additionally, throughout her imprisonment she has been denied all communication with her husband.

In the name of humanity, I respectfully request that you intervene in Ms. Zhou Xuefei's case and help to secure her immediate release, so she may reunite with her family and receive proper medical attention.

Thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

John Lewis
Member of Congress
