We, The Students of the University of Florida, Hereby Reserve:

Title: Resolution in Support of Human Rights of Practitioners in China

Whereas, Falun Gong is a peaceful form of meditation practice based on the principles of truthfulness, compassion and tolerance; and

Whereas, the Government in China under the leadership of Jiang Zemin has forbidden the practice of Falun Gong in China, and attempted to systematically eradicate the Falun Gong and those who practice it; and

Whereas, Jiang Zemin's regime has created notorious government '610' offices throughout China to oversee the persecution of Falun Gong members through organized brainwashing, torture and murder; and

Whereas, the human rights of Falun Gong practitioners are currently being denied in China in violation of the International Covenant of Civil and Political Rights, Universal Declaration of Human Rights and China's own constitution; and

Whereas, the University of Florida has long been a champion of human rights for people all over the world; and

Whereas, the Student Senate of the University of Florida respects human rights and the freedom of belief; then

Therefore, Be It Resolved that the Student Senate Condemns the human rights abuses that have occurred during the Chinese regime's persecution of Falun Gong over the last three and a half years; and

Be It Further Resolved that the Student Senate at the University of Florida calls upon the Chinese regime to cease its persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China; then

Be It Further Resolved that the Student Senate calls upon the Chinese regime to engage in dialogue with Falun Gong practitioners and restore the human rights of Falun Gong practitioners.
