On April 4, 2003, two Falun Dafa practitioners were illegally sentenced in Dengta, Liaoyang City. They were secretly incarcerated at the Dabei Prison, and cruelly tortured. Despite extreme torture, these Falun Dafa practitioners held firmly to their faith. They were force-fed and put on a Tiger Bench.

A Tiger Bench is an instrument of torture in which practitioners are forced to sit on a small iron bench that is approximately 20 cm (6 inches) tall with their knees tied together. With their hands tied behind their backs or sometimes placed on their knees, they are forced to sit straight up and look straight ahead. They are not allowed to turn their heads, close their eyes, talk to anyone or move at all. Several inmates are assigned to watch over the victim and force him or her to remain motionless while sitting on the bench. Another torture involves being handcuffed and hung up. With both hands cuffed behind the back and only the toes touching the ground, one is hung from a basketball support or house beam by the handcuffs.  Both hands and arms soon become numb from a lack of blood circulation. The victim is not allowed to sleep, and an electric baton is used to administer frequent shocks.

Sun Yuhua, female, 37 years old, was a resident of Changdian District, Anshan City, Liaoning Province. She was beaten to death by police on the morning of April 11, 2003. Police did not notify her family until the next day. Her medical file listed the cause of death as "myocardial infarction." The time of death was marked as 10:30 AM, April 11, 2003. Although they made up her face, there were still very visible marks caused from the electric baton shocks and bruises from the beatings. Her family members were threatened not to reveal any information to the public, and the prison attempted to prevent any information about the death from becoming public knowledge.

Zou Qingyu, female, 63 years old, was a resident of Tiexi District, Shenyang City, Liaoning Province. On April 16, 2003, she had a brain hemorrhage from torture and beatings. Police intentionally delayed any treatment, resulting in her death early on the morning of April 17, 2003.

Dabei Prison is located in the northeast corner of Shenyang City, Liaoning Province. It consists of several Provincial Prisons, which include the Provincial Women's Prison and the Shenyang City No.1-4 Prisons. The Shenyang No.2 Prison is where they send most of the illegally sentenced Falun Dafa practitioners from the Liaoning Province area.
