Police Atrocities in Changtu County, Liaoning Province

On the night of April 23, 2003, policemen Hou Wenge and Li Hongjun in Jinja Town Police Station in Changtu County, Liaoning Province drove to Pailou Brick Factory in Houyao Village, Changtu County and kidnapped Meng Xianhui, a Dafa practitioner who lived in Jiuguan Village in Jinja Town but worked here, and took him to the county jail. Earlier, Hou and other police had gone to Meng's house to arrest him but did not find him, so they ransacked his home, taking away his TV set, VCD machine, portable tape player, and Falun Gong books and cassette tapes.

On the night of February 3, 2002, Hou Wenge and other policemen went to Bajiazi Village, Daxing Township and stopped female practitioner Zhai Shuzhen on the street, just as she returned from distributing Dafa truth-clarification materials. They beat Zhai with metal and wooden batons until she passed out and then they fled, thinking that they had killed her. Her family members rushed her to the First Hospital in Changtu County. The hospital found that she had four broken ribs and one of her lungs was punctured, resulting in a collapsed lung. She was saved by the hospital's heroic resuscitative efforts. The hospital bill was over five thousand Yuan. Her family members tried several times to have Jinja Town Police Station take responsibility for the medical expenses, but the police denied beating her and would not pay a penny. After Zhai got out of the hospital, the police in Jinja Town Police Station went to her home again before she was fully recovered and kidnapped her, taking her to the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. But on physical examination at the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp, Zhai was found to have signs of stroke in addition to injuries, so they refused to take her. Only then did Jinja Town Police Station let her go home.
