Professors Wang Haibo and His Wife from Sichuan University Are Kidnapped and Tortured

Wang Haibo, male, 40 years old, was a professor in the Mathematics Department at Sichuan University.

Fang Hui, female, 40 years old, was a professor in the Foreign Language Department at Sichuan University

Wang Haibo and Fang Hui are married and both are Falun Gong practitioners. Before the opening of the 16^th Congress Representative Meeting, the Wuhou Police Sub-station illegally arrested them, leaving their eleven-year-old son at home. The police officers also searched their house. Afterwards, several police officers, including Zhu Gui and He Bin, covered Wang's and Fang's heads with bags, taped their mouths shut, handcuffed their feet and hands and then brutally beat them. The police didn't allow them to sleep for four days. They also shined an intensely bright light in their eyes, causing their eyes to swell and remain swollen for a long time. Currently, they are detained in Chengdu Detention Center in Anjing Town in Pi County, Sichuan Province.

Li Ruzhen, female, 56, lives on Shuanglin Street in City of Chengdu, Sichuan Province.

On April 25, 2003, eight police officers broke in and searched her home. They confiscated some Dafa books and truth-clarifying materials. They also emptied Li's saving account of 10,000 Yuan* and removed 4,900 Yuan in cash. The Chengdu "610 Office"** established a branch office on Huangwa Street to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. The arrest of Li was orchestrated by Hu Lin from this office and Chen Gang from the Huangwa Police Station. Currently Li is detained in the Pi County Detention Center. She has no change of clothes, and the police have refused to accept clothing from her family members using the excuse of SARS.

Dozens of Falun Gong practitioners from the Chengdu Steel Pipes Factory were arrested when they gathered to celebrate Teacher's birthday. About 200 people were around during the arrest and the practitioners shouted, "Falun Dafa is good". Recently, Zhang Kunxiu, Xiao Subi, Li Zhijie and an additional four practitioners were sentenced to three years in prison. Practitioners were not allowed to have their own attorneys. However, the practitioners remained fearless and dignified in the court; they refuted the charges against them and left the unlawful officials speechless. The attorney assigned by the court was moved to tears.

Xiao Dequn, female, is 69 years old. Reported by a former practitioner who turned against Dafa under pressure, the State Security Police arrested her on a public bus. They interrogated her for six days. She is now detained in a detention center.

Li Ming, male, is 30 years old. The Sichuan University's 610 office security guards arrested him on November 18, 2002 while he was clarifying the truth of the persecution to college students. He is still being detained in a detention center.

*Yuan is the Chinese currency. The average monthly salary of an urban worker in China is 500 Yuan.

**The 610 Office is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political or judicial systems.
