The Persecution of Practitioners in Gansu Province

Dafa practitioner Wang Zhilan in Gangu County, Gansu Province is a 48-year-old woman who was very sick for many years. She used to lie in bed, could not stand up and each day just living a normal life was a difficult and painful experience almost worse than death. In March 1998, she read Zhuan Falun and started cultivating. All of her health problems and illnesses have gone away without medical treatment. Unexpectedly, on July 20^th 1999, Jiang's political gang started to persecute Dafa. In order to validate Dafa, she went to Beijing to appeal in 2000. She was caught right after she got off the train and sent back to the local police station. She was illegally detained there for a month and was fined 200 Yuan*. Because she had changed so much physically and spiritually, she really wanted to share her experiences with everyone so she went to Beijing for a second time to uphold Dafa. She was caught right after she arrived at Tiananmen Square. She was detained for six days. She believed in "Truthfulness, Benevolence, Forbearance" and went on hunger strike for six days to resist the persecution. She was sent back to Tianshui by the Tianshui Local Liaison Office in Beijing. After being placed under house arrest for three or four days, she was transferred to the Gansu Detention Center and illegally detained there for a month. She was then forced through a 10-day brainwashing class. After that, she came back home. Once she returned home, she was constantly tracked and followed by strangers. Her home became a very common place that the policemen frequented and searched. This made her very nervous for a long time.

One night in September 2001, while she was sleeping, a group of policemen rushed into her house and dragged her onto the sofa. She was sent to the police station with only underwear on. Her hands were handcuffed to the back around a chair for a night and since she was prohibited from going to the bathroom for such a long time, she ended up being unable to hold her bladder and urinated where she sat. She was sent to the detention center on the second night. She did not give up and went on hunger strike for nine days. Seeing that her life was in danger, the policemen sent her back home, afraid that she would die.

In November 2001, the policemen went to her house again and lured her to the police station by telling her that the police station leader wanted to talk to her. After she went to the police station, Gou Bingya from the Politics and Security Department directly sent her to the drug rehabilitation center. She firmly resisted the persecution and was force-fed after two days on hunger strike. She was forced to stand on the cement floor with bare feet. Roughly half of her teeth fell out from the beatings. After being detained for over ten days, she was illegally sent to Lanzhou city for one and half years of labor camp. The labor camp did not dare to accept her because after a medical examination, it appeared as though she had a heart problem. She was then sent to the Gansu Drug Rehabilitation Center for one more day. They finally agreed to let her see the doctor outside the prison after they extorted 1,500 Yuan from her husband.

Ms. Zhang Cailing is a 48-year-old woman. She was depressed after she got divorced, but she luckily attained Dafa in 1998. She looked like a totally different person after cultivating. She was very optimistic, cultivated very hard and strived forward vigorously. She started out as a good person and then moved up continuously. After July 20^th 1999, she kept telling people about Falun Dafa according to her own cultivation experiences. She went to Beijing to validate Dafa in December 2000. After she came back, she was illegally detained for two months by the local policemen and encountered all kinds of torture, cursing and beatings during her period of detention. The policemen searched her house in January 2001. She was tortured many times. The torturers were trying to force her to provide information. To resist, she went on hunger strike for a month in the detention center. The policemen tried to extort 2,000 Yuan from her daughter and failed, and then they asked her for 1,000 Yuan and then lowered it down to 500 Yuan, claiming that they wouldn't release her without getting money from her. They still failed to get the money. Finally they released her after forty days.

In January 2003, just after she came back home from her mother's funeral and she had not taken off her mourning clothes and slippers, she was deceived into visiting a smoking rehabilitation center by people from the court system in Xinxing county. She didn't return. A couple of days later, she was sent to the No. 2 labor camp in Lanzhou city. The policemen have applied all kinds of torture methods, trying to force her to write the so-called "three guarantee letters**." However, using force and persecuting people can't change this practitioner's righteous thoughts toward the righteous Law. She has kept her beliefs, endured all kinds of hardships, and protected Dafa's majesty with her firm righteous thoughts.

*Yuan is the Chinese currency. The average monthly salary of an urban worker in China is 500 Yuan.

**The "three guarantee letters" are statements to declare that he or she is remorseful for practicing Falun Gong and guarantees not to practice Falun Gong again, not to go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, and never again associate with any Falun Dafa practitioners.
