On March 16, 2003, practitioner Ms. Duan Yuying was illegally arrested while distributing flyers at a railway station. She is now detained at the Dongxihu Detention Center. Duan Yuying had already been unlawfully detained five times. The first time she was detained after she went to Beijing to appeal; the second time she was reported to police for doing the exercises outdoors; the third time she was arrested for distributing truth-clarifying materials; the fourth time she was reported to police for group study at a fellow practitioner's home; and the fifth time she was taken away because she hung up a banner on her own balcony.

On April 3, 2003, personnel from Jinan City's Telecommunication Residential Committee deceived practitioner Ms. Hao Guangping into coming to the committee. She lives in the Jinan City's Telecommunication Residential area, located in the central part of Jinan City. Some policemen from the Silicun Police Precinct, including one named Zhao Hongsheng, then forcibly took her from the committee room to the Silicun Police Precinct. At present, Hao Guangping's whereabouts are unknown. The following is her story.

Dafa practitioner Hao Guangping had been illegally taken to a brainwashing center and, under coercion and great pressure, had been so-called "transformed." After returning home, she felt terrible for betraying "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance" under the great pressure. She had benefited both physically and mentally from practicing Dafa and she knew clearly that Dafa is the Great Fa, the genuine, orthodox law. After a mental struggle, she realized "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance" is one's life necessity and one must speak the truth; this is the criterion for being a good person. She then wrote a solemn experience-sharing article on cultivating in Dafa, how her family and she herself had benefited from Dafa, and the persecution she had endured after July 20, 1999, including paying a huge "fine" of 100,000 Yuan*. In March 2003, she mailed two copies of this letter of true experiences to Jinan City's Legal Training Center and Shen Xide, director of Political & Judiciary Committee of street administrative office respectively. This letter, though, has become an excuse to further persecute her and led to the collaboration between the Jinan City's Telecommunication Residential Committee and the Silicun Police Precinct; they were the ones who set up a trap to arrest her.

Now, Hao Guangping's relatives and friends have had their phones tapped and special agents follow her family members.

At around 4:00 p.m. on May 8, 2003, police ransacked the home of 46-year-old Dafa practitioner Mr. Wang Qingzhong and confiscated some Dafa literature. Wang was later sent to a brainwashing center in Linyi City's Technical College of Hydraulic Engineering.

Recently, the Public Information & Security Supervision Subsidiary from Shenzhen City's Police Department issued a notice requesting all work units and individuals who have Internet connections to report their user names, ID numbers, means of contact, including telephone numbers and addresses, email address, IP addresses and others for setting up files. Actually, their real purpose is to obtain information about local practitioners and practitioners from other places and to harass them by Internet surveillance for future persecution.

Practitioner Ms. Sun Yishu was a laid-off worker from Liu'an City's Textile Mill. After she was laid off she ran a printing business in Hefei City. Ms. Sun was physically weak prior to practicing Falun Dafa. After she practiced Falun Gong she became healthy. Following July 20, 1999, she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was detained for ten months by the police from Liu'an City at a detention center. Later on, her family bailed her out. In June 2001 she was illegally detained again. Liu'an City "610 Office" enforcers sentenced her to two years of forced labor. Because she was determined in her belief in Dafa while in the labor camp, they sent her to a "transforming class" for further persecution. Many collaborators [former practitioners who went astray due to brainwashing] take turns to brainwash her and deprive her of sleep. To this day, Ms. Sun is still being persecuted.

According to security personnel from a police department, right now, each police office and all the street committees in Dalian City are contacting work units to take a count of Falun Gong practitioners.

Xinxiang City's Female Prison is located at the southwest corner of Xinxiang City. There are eight teams in the prison. Most of the illegally sentenced female practitioners detained there are from Henan Province. Because of the information blockade, the persecution against Dafa practitioners in that place has not been exposed. We do know, though, that the police force each visiting family member to curse Dafa. From that alone we can tell how evil the environment is inside. Now, the prison does not permit any visits, using SARS as an excuse.

Practitioners detained at Changchun City's Chaoyanggou Labor Camp do not accept the arrangements by old forces, and they are very determined in Dafa. The policemen in the camp have escalated the persecution. For example, they do not release those practitioners whose detention terms have expired and do not permit practitioners' relatives to visit. In addition, these policemen also instigate criminals to beat practitioners and promised those criminals reduced prison terms if they could get practitioners to give up cultivation. Practitioner Mr. Hou Jiarong and his wife Ms. Wu Shaoli are from Daowai District in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province. Their home address is Qingxing Street No. 6, Daowai District. They started practicing Falun Gong in 1995. In August 2002, the police ransacked their home and arrested the couple. Currently they are still detained in the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp.

On June 28, 2002, lawless policeman Cheng Rui from the Jiangjun Police Precinct, and other policemen from Section No. 1 Fushun City Police Department arrested practitioner Liu Guangying. She had been living a homeless life to avoid being arrested for the past 3 ? months. After she was illegally detained at Fushun City's Wujiabao Forced Labor Camp for two days, they unlawfully sentenced her to three years of forced labor and transferred her to Shenyang City's Masanjia Forced Labor Camp.

On May 23, some personnel from the Physical Therapy Hospital and some local policemen illegally arrested Mr. Li Jianhua and his wife Ms. Zhao from home. Their whereabouts are unknown. Their underage child and elderly parents are left home without care. Ms. Zhao's mother is partially paralyzed due to a stroke. We sincerely hope that Dafa practitioners and people with a sense of justice can rescue them quickly.

Nearly 1,400 Dafa practitioners are illegally detained at the No.2 Female Center of the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. Every day, the camp officials forcibly brainwash Dafa practitioners by compelling them to view or listen to all kind of programs slandering Master Li Hongzhi and Dafa. They also force Dafa practitioners to talk about and write down their views. If the ideas they express are not consistent with the officials' viewpoints, the Dafa practitioners would then be handcuffed to a heating pipe. In this position they can neither squat nor stand up. In the winter, lawless policemen forcibly removed practitioners' clothing, leaving them only their underwear, and then exposed the practitioners to freezing temperatures outside in the yard. Another way that the lawless policemen torture practitioners is by prohibiting them to use the toilet. They also forbid the family to visit those practitioners who firmly hold on to their belief in Dafa. Now they prohibit family visits because of SARS. This persecution has severely harmed Dafa practitioners, both physically and mentally.

Bubonic plague is quietly on the rise in Mainland China, even before SARS is under control. Recently in Xiao City, Benxi City, Liaoning Province, nearly a hundred people have become infected with bubonic plague. Because of the information blockade, the extent of cases in other areas is unknown.
