(Clearwisdom.net) On June 9, 2003, US Senator John Edwards from North Carolina wrote to Falun Gong practitioner to express his thanks for contacting him regarding the arrest of Dr. Charles Li.

He said in his letter: "I am familiar with the case, and have been reassured by US State Department that the Department is monitoring Dr. Li's treatment closely."

He said: "I share your concerns about human rights abuses in China and around the world, including concerns about the current situation involving Falun Gong. I have joined several Senate colleagues in communicating with the [former] President of the People's Republic of China, Jiang Zemin, and denouncing the persecution of practitioners of Falun Gong. Please be assured that I will continue to monitor this issue closely"
