Sweden: Telling People the Facts during the Gothenburg Festival

(Clearwisdom.net August 23, 2003) There are 700,000 people living in Gothenburg, Sweden, where the annual Gothenburg Festival is held every August. During the seven-day-long festival, around 10,000 tourists from all over the world will visit the city each day.

Naturally, Swedish Dafa practitioners did not want to miss this precious opportunity to let people know about the persecution that is happening to their fellow practitioners in China. Practitioners did not present their application to take part in the festival until after it had begun, but the festival organizers were very impressed by their sincerity and peacefulness. They quickly decided to offer Dafa practitioners a place on the busiest street. They also added Falun Gong's activities to the daily festival program, and published it in the newspaper.

Even though there are a lot of Dafa activities in Sweden over the summer, practitioners coordinated with one another well so that there was always someone at the festival to set up the information boards, demonstrate the five sets of Falun Gong exercises, hand out leaflets and tell people the facts.

Passers-by expressed their sympathy with the persecution that Falun Gong practitioners are suffering in China. They were astonished by the fact that citizens of other countries are also tortured in China. They also showed their anger about the pressure that Jiang's government imposes on democratic countries, and the interference with the freedom of overseas Falun Gong practitioners. They showed great interest in the lawsuits filed in many countries against the former Chinese leader, Jiang Zemin, who is the prime culprit of the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. Many of them indicated their support for the legal actions taken by Dafa practitioners.
