Supporters of China's Falun Gong movement are scheduled to hold a demonstration in front of Westminster's City Hall today to gain support for the release of a United States citizen who is being jailed and tortured in China, according to a spokeswoman for the group.

The organization, Friends of Dr. Charles Lee, is scheduled to be in Westminster at 4 p.m. to raise awareness and collect signatures for a petition for the inmate's release.

Lee, a physician and resident of Menlo Park, California, was seized and detained in China more than six months ago because of an attempt to expose human rights violations suffered by Falun Gong practitioners in China, according to a press release from the organization.

Falun Gong is an ancient Chinese mind and body practice.
