WEAR-TV (Pensacola, FL): American Imprisoned in China


Friends of a California man are in Northwest Florida to raise awareness about his conflict with the Chinese government.

Supporters of Charles Li set up posters in front of Pensacola City Hall to spread information about Li's situation.

His friends say he's been tortured in a Chinese prison since January.

They say Li was arrested because he was going to China to fight for the right of Chinese citizens to practice "Falun Gong."

That's an ancient form of mind and body meditation.

Jason Wang says, "We want to let more people know and the American government know that Charles is a hero of America, and he risked his life to rescue people's lives in China."

Wang hopes this cross-country campaign will put pressure on China to release Li and other "Falun Gong" practitioners from prison.
