On January 17, 2004, Falun Gong practitioners from Auckland participated in the local Chinese New Year Celebration. This activity was organized by Auckland Overseas Chinese Association and it is a large scale Chinese New Year event that have many government officials and political leaders show up every year.

This time, Premier Helen Clark, Minister of Foreign Affairs Phil Goff attended the celebration as well as National Party leader Mr. Don Brash, Mayor of Auckland City John Banks and Chinese-Origin Member of Parliament Mrs. Pansy Wong and etc.

Falun Gong practitioners performed a Tang Dynasty Costume Show. Before the show, one practitioner greeted to the audience, "New Zealand Falun Gong practitioners wish everyone a happy New Year!" Eight practitioners performed the costume show and dance. The audience gave their warm applause. The host invited the Falun Gong practitioners to participate in their future events.
