July 1, 2001 was a hazy, drizzly day. At least 700 Falun Dafa practitioners were gathered in the auditorium of Baimalong Forced Labor Camp hall in Zhuzhou, Hunan Province. Male and female prison police lined the hall entrance and the hallways, keeping a close watch on everything. Some specialized officers carried police clubs or electric shock batons. Two prisoners had been assigned to monitor each steadfast practitioner. They brought the practitioners in and seated each one between the two assigned prisoners.

At 9:00 a.m. the lectures intended to brainwash the practitioners began. The first speaker was Zhao Guibao who was promoted to the position of deputy head of the labor camp because of his "achievement" in persecuting Falun Dafa. He started with the so-called "transformation quota" that had been achieved through means of deceiving, high pressure, physical punishment and other cruel torture. However, the shouts of "Falun Dafa is good!" "Falun Dafa is the righteous Fa!" would frequently rise, like the sound of thunder. Then came the sound of beating, struggling, and people being dragged away from the assembly, until it became quiet once again.

The speakers following him were collaborators who gave speeches to "expose and criticize" Falun Dafa [Collaborators are former Falun Dafa practitioners who have renounced the practice due to brainwashing and torture]. Suddenly Ms. Lei Baoliang, a 50-year-old practitioner, stood up solemnly and began to recite the Fa-rectification verses, vigorously and loudly. Her voice resounded in the hall. Wang Fufua, a 30-year-old practitioner, freed herself from the hands of the four prisoners around her and stood up with dignity to join in. Then, Shu Bilan, Li Rong and other practitioners joined in, one after another. The powerful voices resounded into the sky. The whole meeting became chaotic, as righteousness and evil battled intensively. The sounds of whipping, struggling and the shuffling of chairs filled the atmosphere. In order to continue their deceitful performance, the police had to drag those steadfast practitioners out of the hall one by one.

It was still raining outside, but much of the haze had been lifted.
