Zhao Shiquan returned home for his mother's funeral. He was arrested and sent to a brainwashing class as a result.)

My mother's name was Nie Huanying. She had retired from the daycare center at the University of Science and Technology Beijing. My mother started practicing Falun Gong in 1997. Prior to that, she suffered from a stroke, and the right half of her body was paralyzed. She was living on medicine and her monthly medical expenses were at least 500 Yuan (1). After practicing Falun Gong, my mother quickly recovered and stopped using any medicine within a month. As a result, she saved the state at least 40,000 Yuan in medical expenses over the seven years she practiced Falun Gong. My father also started practicing and changed dramatically. He became more confident and positive, telling everyone he knows that "practicing Falun Gong is great." Before my parents started practicing, their health conditions were not good, and our family also experienced financial difficulties. Practicing Falun Gong brought health back to my parents and happiness to our family. We became more active and positive towards our work and study. Practicing Falun Gong also made my parents better people, and they always contributed money and other items to areas suffering from natural disasters. Falun Dafa brought hope to our family.

Prior to July 20, 1999, when the persecution began, my mother practiced the exercises with fellow practitioners every morning and evening at the university campus. However, since the persecution started against Falun Gong, she lost this environment, and had to practice at home secretly. Practicing at home was not acceptable either. Officers from the Wudaokou Police Station visited our home requesting my mother to write a guarantee not to practice any more. My mother did not agree, and told them the benefits our family enjoyed physically and mentally from Dafa. After the police left, the local residents' committee kept talking to my mother to force her to give up the practice. Under high pressure, my mother wrote the Guarantee Statement. This caused great mental suffering for my mother. She became inactive, and could not study the Fa, or do the exercises as usual any longer.

In order to send me to brainwashing class, the local residents' committee, Wudaokou Police Station, and Haidian Police Department constantly sent people to my home to pressure my parents. Under such high pressure, my father once called the police station when I came home, and the police station director Zhang Wei, police officer Bo Li and two others arrested me and sent me to a brainwashing class. My parents were extremely distressed by the incident. They completely stopped studying the Fa and doing the exercises. They became pale, and the healthy look on their faces disappeared. Their physical health started rapidly deteriorating. This year, my mother suffered from a stroke again, and it soon turned into pneumonia and she passed away.

After my mother passed away, many people who did not know the truth said "the woman who practiced Falun Gong passed away." They did not understand how many physical and mental abuses my mother suffered over these years due to the persecution of Falun Gong.
