Teachers and Students at Beijing Normal University Persecuted For Practicing Falun Gong

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Shao Mingxue, a postdoctoral student in the Physics Department in his thirties, was seized and detained many times by the police. In 2001, he was illegally sentenced to five years in prison.

Mr. Zhang, in his seventies, is a professor in both the Chinese Language Department and the Foreign Language Department. He began practicing Falun Dafa in 1996. In 2001, the Fourteenth Division of the Beijing City Public Security Bureau detained him for a day.

Ms. Guo Yulan, in her fifties, works in the school's library. She started to practice Falun Dafa in 1996. Soon afterwards, all her health problems were cured. After the persecution started, police searched her home and confiscated her belongings three times and arrested her four times. She was also illegally detained in a forced labor camp for a year and a half. As part of the persecution, the school authorities won't promote her or give her a pay raise. Her phone was monitored. The local police station and community committee also continue to harass her.

Ms. Wang Anlin, in her fifties, is a physician in the Acupuncture Department in the school's hospital. After she learned about Falun Dafa in 1995, both her mind and body recovered quickly and all her diseases were cured. After the persecution began, she persisted in telling people the truth about Falun Gong. For doing this, she was temporarily detained three times, put in prison twice, and imprisoned in a labor camp for a year and a half. Twice, the police beat her brutally, leaving wounds all over her body. As part of the persecution, the school authorities won't raise her level, have withheld her salary and bonus for a whole year, and withdrew her Party membership. For a period of time, secret agents followed her wherever she went and tapped her home phone. The local police station and community committee also harassed her repeatedly. In October 2000, school authorities ordered people to abduct her to a brainwashing class held at Renmin University. In February 2001, the school again forced her to attend a brainwashing class, this one held in the Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp in Daxing County. It was called "The Third Brainwashing Center for Higher Education."

Ms. Lin, in her twenties, was a graduate student in the Foreign Language Department. In 2000, when she came back from a trip to Russia, she was arrested at the airport and detained for a month. She was arrested the second time while visiting a friend's home and detained for two days without reason. Another time, when she was studying on the school campus, the school security officials searched her schoolbag and confiscated some books and other materials. Also, because she practiced Falun Gong, her search for a job was affected (1).

Mr. Zhang, in his twenties, was an undergraduate student in the Mathematics Department. One day when he was studying, the school security officials searched him and detained him for a day.

Ms. Du, in her fifties, is an honored teacher in the Physical Education Department and also a member of the Party. On December 26, 2000, when she went to the Beijing City Shijingshan Procuratorate to sit in on a court case, she was illegally arrested by the police and detained for two days. On June 13, 2001, the school security officials forced her to attend a brainwashing class held in the Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp in Daxing County, where she was persecuted for two weeks. Her community committee also follows her and harasses her constantly.

Ms. Ge, in her twenties, was a graduate student in the Mathematics Department. In December 2000, she also planned to sit in on a court hearing held in the Beijing City Shijingshan Procuratorate but was illegally arrested instead and detained for two days. On June 13, 2001, she was further persecuted and forced to attend brainwashing classes in the Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp in Daxing City for two weeks.

Dr. An is a physician in the school hospital. In 1999, Dr. An went to the appeal office on Fuyou Street to appeal on behalf of Falun Dafa. For doing so he was detained for a day. Because of his practice of Falun Gong, the school puts a great deal of pressure on Dr. An. The community committee monitors him and his home phone, which greatly affects his life and work.

Ms. Yuan, in her twenties, is an honored young teacher in the Physical Education Department. She was forced to attend a brainwashing class and later had to leave home for half a year to avoid further persecution. In October 2000, she was forced to attend a brainwashing class at Renmin University. The school still doesn't allow her to teach classes.
