Mr. Xing Huinan of Xiangfan City, Hubei Province, Brutally Tortured and Critically Ill in Shayang Fanjiatai Prison

Mr. Xing Huinan, 47, resided in the Color Metal Factory at #107 Qianjin Road, Fancheng District, Xiangfan City, Hubei Province. After July 20, 1999, he was detained several times for making appeals for Falun Gong.

In March 2001, Xing Huinan was again arrested at his home and sent to the Xiangfan City First Detention Center. Because he refused to denounce Falun Gong, he was detained until July 18, 2002, which exceeded his sentenced term. He was again sentenced to a five-year term and sent to the Fourth District in the Shayang Fanjiatai Prison, where he was subjected to extreme tortures. As a result, he now suffers from numerous health problems, including tuberculosis, abscesses on his back, a protruding vertebral disc, pleurisy, and dysfunctional lower limbs.

In April 2004 after learning of his condition, Mr. Xiang's family members requested that he be released on bail for medical treatment. The prison staff said that they had to wait until after May 19 in order to visit Mr. Xiang. When they visited Mr. Xing on May 20, Xing Huinan was carried out on a stretcher, and his body was trembling and shivering. The staff said that the prison had to get a signature from the local "610 Office" and submit the request to the Province to get Mr. Xing a medical leave, and that it could only be done at the end of July. They waited until the end of August. The prison staff then said that they had to wait till after October 8. As of now, the prison still has not released Mr. Xiang.

Xing Huinan's wife, Tang Jianhua, is also a practitioner. She was illegally sentenced to forced labor many times. She is now out on bail for medical treatment and is under surveillance.

No lawyer has taken Mr. Xiang's case. The lawyers know that the government has a rule about not handling cases regarding Falun Gong.
