Ms. Zhang Junyun, 51, is a retired staff member from Wuhua Group in Jilin City, Jilin Province. She was reported by someone for practicing Falun Gong and was arrested and sent to the Dongjuzi Police Station on May 19, 2004.

During her detention, they handcuffed her to a heating pipe. National Security Team Captain Du Xingze of the Changyi Division in Jilin City Police Department slapped her face violently and took off her shoes and made her stand barefoot on the cold cement floor. (Pictures 1 and 2)

Ms. Zhang was taken to the Third Jilin City Detention Center the next day where she began a hunger strike to protest against the police's persecution. Policewoman Xing Shufen, Deputy Director Cong Maohua and the center's resident doctor Zhang Shaoqing force-fed her and cuffed her with handcuffs and shackles (weighing over 11 pounds). She was not able to stand straight while walking and could not go to the restroom on her own. (Pictures 3 and 4)

Subsequently, Zhang Junyun was sent to the Heizuizi Labor Camp on June 17, 2004. She had been on a hunger and thirst strike for a month, was extremely weak, and her whole body was beginning to cramp. However, policeman Zhang Hong said, "She is pretending," and heavily slapped her twice. Then he had her dragged away to meet with the Seventh Team.

The Seventh Team captain Hou Zhihong ordered Zhang Junyun to get up but she was not able to. Hou used an electric baton to shock her all over her body, causing her arms to be covered with blisters (Picture 5).

Yang Baoling and Hu Yanping were two collaborators (1). They forced Ms. Zhang to write the five Guarantee Statements [to renounce Falun Gong]. The guards ordered inmate Ning Wenzhi to slap Ms. Zhang. Ning shoved Zhang to the ground and pulled off her pants. While sitting on her legs, Ning violently slapped her with her shoes and clothes. This abuse injured Zhang's knee joint, which made it difficult for her to walk or sit in a chair. They deprived her of her sleep and forced her to stand against the wall. She still feels the pain in her knee joints occasionally even today. Later Zhang was released and sent to the hospital in critical condition.
