Torture Deaths of Practitioners in Mudanjiang City's Jianshanzi Prison in 2003

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Yu Junxiu was tortured to death in July of 2003 at Jianshanzi Prison in Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province (his case was previously reported on Clearwisdom.net, http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2004/10/27/53910.html). Before his death, he had been tortured for over three months.

Mr. Yu Junxiu was from Zhejiang Province. He started practicing Falun Gong when he was in prison on another charge. Because of his belief, he was put in solitary confinement at the Fourteenth Division of the Jianshanzi Prison between April and June of 2003. His request to see other practitioners was rejected.

Almost all the guards there were involved in torturing Yu Junxiu. Among them, Lin Liming, Liu Ping and Xu Shujun were the most vicious ones. Lin Liming and Liu Ping put handcuffs and shackles on Yu Junxiu, connected them from behind with a chain, and locked the chain to an iron ring in the ground. They also often beat Mr. Yu with white plastic tubing. Policeman Xu Shujun would shock him with electric batons for an hour at a time. Mr. Yu was only given half of a steamed bun every day and was often deprived of water for days.

When Yu Junxiu's health condition was extremely precarious, they sent him to the hospital. He died several days after he was released from solitary confinement. However, the prison blamed Falun Gong and claimed that he died because he refused medical treatment after he had gotten ill in solitary confinement.

According to another report, Li Ruqing, a 66-year-old retired worker from the Shuangyashan Mining Bureau Machine and Electricity Plant, was sentenced to seven years in prison. Within two months after he was sent to Mudanjiang's Jianshanzi Prison, he was tortured to death around October 9, 2003. Another practitioner, Yu Jixing was tortured to death at the Fourth Division of Mudanjiang's Jianshanzi Prison. The details are unknown.

According to inside sources, practitioners detained in Mudanjiang Prison suffer severe torture. Over twenty practitioners suffered pulmonary tuberculosis as a result of abuse and torture. Practitioner Pan Xingfu suffered edema in his lower limbs and deafness in one ear; Cui Hongwei is paralyzed in his lower body after his vertebra was broken from being beaten.
