The Persecution Ms. Fan Wenfang Suffered before Being Carried into the Courtroom on a Stretcher

From March 2000 to the beginning of 2002, the "610 Office" of Fuyang City arrested Fan Wenfang three times and sent her to Hefei City Female Labor Camp, where she was cruelly tortured. To protest against the unlawful persecution, she began a hunger strike. During her detention, she endured many forced feedings. Each time, the guards directed six or seven criminals without any medical knowledge to carry out the task.

Three stainless steel tablespoons and special equipment for depressing the tongue were used during the forced feedings. The criminals were very cruel and brutal under the instruction of the guards. During the forced feedings, Ms. Fan Wenfang's hair was grabbed and pulled out in handfuls. Her ear was ripped, her nose was broken and blood streamed out many times. Her lips, mouth, tongue and throat were cut and bled heavily.

After suffering multiple forced feedings, Ms. Fan Wenfang was severely emaciated and on the verge of death. At last, the guards in the female labor camp realized that she was dying and, in an attempt to avoid responsibility, sent her home.

In September 2002, Ms. Fan Wenfang was unlawfully sent to Funan Detention Center, and while she was there, the guards tortured her with forced feedings, leaving her in an emaciated condition. She suffered low blood glucose level and electrolyte disorder at the same time. She was not sent home until she was on the verge of death.

Only one day after being sent home, she was again taken to Yingshang Detention Center and tortured there. During the over 30 days she was detained there, she experienced many brutal forced feedings by the guards. Towards the end when her situation was life threatening, they sent her home to avoid responsibility for her condition.

On May 25, 2003, under the instruction of the Fuyang City "610 Office," Ms. Fan Wenfang was again arrested by the Fuyang Public Security Bureau and secretly persecuted in Linquan Detention Center. This lasted over six months.

To resist the unlawful arrest and detention, Ms. Fan Wenfang started a hunger strike. Under the instigation of Fuyang City "610 Office" head Qi Chenggang, head of Linquan County Detention Center Wu Guangjie, deputy head Lin Ping, political head Li, Doctor Tai, Zhou Qingyou and others, together with the deputy director of Linquan County Public Security Bureau Liu Gang, Political and Security Section head Wang Yumin, tortured Ms. Fan Wenfang multiple times with brutal force feedings.

Each time, the head of the detention center and guards would instruct seven or eight male criminals arrested for drug abuse, burglary, robbery etc. to perform the force-feeding. They would throw her to the ground, some holding her hands, some holding her feet, some grabbing her hair, some pulling her ear, some pinching her nose, and some others pressing hard on her cheek. A strong male held a 1-foot-long stainless steel spanner; he forced her mouth open with the arm of the spanner and pushed it deep into her mouth until it reached her throat. The pain was unbearable and Ms. Fan Wenfang used all her strength to struggle. Much of her hair was pulled out, her ears and nose were broken and started to bleed, eight of her teeth were broken off and all the remaining teeth were knocked loose. She could not bite anything. Her lips, the flesh inside and outside of her mouth as well as her tongue were smashed by the spanner. Her appearance was beyond description . Sometimes she was tortured so badly that she could not control her bladder and bowels, and would pass out.

The policemen also forced-fed her with hot pepper water and milk mixed with unknown drugs. Once they stripped off her clothes to force-feed her. The guards and the criminals insulted her while torturing her. After so many times of brutal torture, the once healthy body of Ms. Fan Wenfang was reduced to skin and bone. She could no longer look after herself in daily life, and her life is in great danger.
