Cases of Persecution against Dafa Practitioners of Yaoxiaofang Village, Shuangcheng City
(Clearwisdom.net) Beginning on July 20, 1999, Jiang's regime started an intensive persecution
campaign against Dafa practitioners. The Dafa practitioners of a small village
located in a corner of Heilongjiang Province, Yaoxiaofang Village, Handian Town,
Shuangcheng City, were not spared. The following are cases of the villagers who
have been persecuted because they firmly believe in Falun Dafa's principle of
"Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance" and try to be good people: 1. Ms. Chi Jirong is 44 years old. She started practicing Falun Gong in 1996
and in the past had suffered from cirrhosis of the liver, mastitis, periodontal
disease and peritonitis, and problems with her appendix. All these illnesses
went away after she started to practice Falun Gong. On July 21, 1999, exercising
her constitutional right, she went to the provincial government to appeal for
Dafa, but was arrested by police and detained in a large stadium with other
Falun Gong practitioners. Because she refused to cooperate with the police's
unjustified demands, the police beat and kicked her. She was then transferred to
a school building and illegally detained. On September 7, 1999, Ms. Chi Jirong went again to Beijing to appeal for fair
treatment for Falun Dafa. She was arrested once more and taken back on the
second day to Shuangcheng City, where she was held in that city's detention
center for 64 days. Wang Jinzhu, Party secretary for the town, extorted 2,500
Yuan (1) from her. Wang Guangzhong from the street police precinct
extorted another 500 Yuan from her family; Zhang Xueyi and Zhang Limin also
extorted 1,000 Yuan from her family. Her family had an additional 570 Yuan
extorted from them that were claimed to be for "meal expenses." In the
end the authorities forced her family to use their house deed as collateral to
bail her out. On December 27, 1999, Chi Jirong went to Beijing again to appeal for the
third time. Police arrested her again and sent her to a prison. Because she
refused to report her name and address and kept shouting "Falun Dafa is
good, restore Master Li's reputation" and other words of support for Dafa,
the police subjected her to a vicious beating. The police tied her and five
other Dafa practitioners to one long shoulder pole, [a long pole for carrying
heavy loads] taped their mouths, and tied up their four limbs with tape. The
police used all available methods to force practitioners to renounce their
belief. However, in spite of these measures, the practitioners would not
renounce their belief in Falun Dafa. Chi Jirong was released on December 29,
1999. After she returned home, the village magistrates went to her home every
day to monitor and harass her. In January of 2001, two days before the Spring Festival, the officers of
Handian Town and from her village went to her home, trying to force her to sign
her name to a document and to write a "guarantee letter" saying that
she would give up her Falun Dafa practice. She wrote down that she would insist
on practicing Dafa and she would stick with it to the end. This statement made
the officers angry. They took her to the town office. They threatened her,
telling her that she would not be allowed to go home for the Spring Festival and
would have to spend her Spring Festival days in prison. She firmly resisted
their threats and persecution, and kept on explaining the facts about the
persecution of Falun Dafa to them. On the second day, her family took her back
home. 2. Mu Qingzhi is a female practitioner, 45 years old. She started practicing
Falun Gong in 1996 and benefited both physically and mentally. On July 20, 1999, Mu Qingzhi went to the provincial government to appeal. She
was then forced to sit in a brainwashing class in Handian Town. Later she was
forced to participate in a reformation class held by the village officials and
had to attend daily. In the fall she was not allowed to go to the field to
harvest her crops. She was placed under house arrested and was not even allowed
to go out of her door. 3. Sun Zhenjie is a 42-year-old male Dafa practitioner. He learned Falun Dafa
in 1996. Not only did his old illnesses go away, his bad temper also changed,
making him a kinder and more compassionate person. His family also became
harmonious. On July 20, 1999, Mr. Sun Zhenjie went to Harbin City to appeal for Dafa. He
was arrested and taken back to Handian Town. Liu Yingwen, the head town
magistrate, and others held a meeting with him present and officially criticized
him in front of others. [This is a practice left over from the Cultural
Revolution, which aims to create terror by singling out individuals who
apparently don't conform to current party ideology and causing fear in those who
do conform by making them afraid to go against the party ideology.] With a
benevolent mind, Sun Zhenjie kept sharing his personal experiences of benefiting
from practicing Falun Dafa. On September 7, 1999, Mr. Sun Zhenjie, exercising his constitutional right,
went to Beijing to appeal for Dafa. He was once again arrested and detained in
the Shuangcheng City Liaison Office in Beijing. On September 11, 1999, he was
taken to the Shuangcheng City Detention Center, where he was tortured. The
officials present kicked him in the head, threatened to let him bleed to death,
left him in the cold, made him sleep on hard and cold boards, and so on. His
face, nose, eyes, and mouth were often bleeding from the beatings, with blue and
purple bruises, which did not show any improvement over a prolonged period. The
police officers directed criminal inmates to beat him and kept questioning him
as to whether he still was firm in practicing Falun Gong. He always answered,
"I will keep practicing with sustained effort and firmly believe in Dafa,
all the way to the end." He was detained for 65 days. The authorities from
the Public Security Department extorted 3,000 Yuan from him. The street precinct
officials extorted 500 Yuan and confiscated the money he had on him. Another
2500 Yuan went to Wang Jinzhu from the town government; Zhang Shiyao from the
"610 Office" extorted 1,500 Yuan for himself. Mr. Sun was finally
released with a guarantee [not to practice anymore] from other people. In June of 2000, Mr. Sun Zhenjie again went to Beijing to validate Dafa. He
was again arrested and taken back to Shuangcheng City's Detention Center, and
detained for 10 days before he was released. During these 10 days he went on a
hunger strike six times to protest against the persecution. When he was
released, Zhang Shiyao extorted 100 Yuan from his over 70-year-old retired
father. In 2002, Sun Zhenjie was again abducted and taken to a detention center. The
guards urged the criminal inmates to torture him with beatings, gouging his eyes
with their fingers and other forms of abuse. Later, he had 1,000 Yuan extorted
from him by the head of the police station before he was released. 4. Liu Qingying is a female Dafa practitioner, 32 years old. She learned
Falun Dafa in 1996 and benefited both physically and mentally from practicing
Dafa. On June 25, 2000, Ms. Liu Qingying went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong.
One June 30, 2000, she was taken back to the Shuangcheng City Detention Center
and was detained there for 15 days. She was extorted 150 Yuan before she was
released, and she was kicked and beaten by Wang Shengli from the "610
Office."(2) After she returned home, the village officials Zhang
Rongxiang and Ding Naiyu repeatedly coerced her family to pay them money to
cover the expenses for their trip to Beijing. They finally debited her family's
2002 crop account. Her family had no other choice - they were forced to pay
2,000 Yuan. 5. Wang Deqin is a female Dafa practitioner, 41 years old. She started
practicing Falun Gong in June of 1996. She originally started to practice Dafa
for treating her duodenal ulcer and hepatitis. After beginning genuine
cultivation, her illnesses were completely cured. On July 20, 1999, Ms. Wang Deqin went the provincial government to appeal for
Dafa, and as a result the police savagely beat her. After she came back, village
official Ding Naiyu forced her to join a brainwashing class held by the town
government. On September 6, 1999, Wang Deqin went to Beijing again to appeal. She was
abducted and taken back to the Shuangcheng City Detention Center, where she was
detained for 64 days before she was released. During her detention, persons from
the "610 Office" forced her family to put their house up as
collateral. Furthermore, head Zhang Guofu and deputy head Zhang Shiyao from the
Shuangcheng City Public Security Department, and Liu Chunyang from the "610
Office" extorted 3,000 Yuan from her family. Furthermore, Zhang Xueyi
extorted 100 Yuan from her family. Wang Jinzhu, secretary of the Handian Town
Political and Law Committee, extorted 2,500 Yuan and Wang Guangzhong from the
street precinct extorted 500 Yuan. She was also required to pay 570 Yuan that
were claimed to be "meal expenses." In 2001, village officials Ding Naiyu, Guo Shuyun, Zhang Rongxiang and a town
government officer named Sun came to Wang Deqin's home, trying to force her to
write a letter guaranteeing that she would not go to Beijing again. They
threatened to detain her if she refused to put a promise into writing. 6. Lan Fengrong is a female Dafa practitioner, 44 years old. She had
pulmonary tuberculosis before she learned Falun Dafa. After she started to
practice Falun Gong, she regained her health and became a better person. When Jiang Zemin started to persecute Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, village
officials Ding Naiyu, Chu Huanxing and others came to her home in the middle of
the night to search for Dafa books, not knowing the facts about the origins of
the persecution against Falun Dafa. The town government officers forced Ms. Lan
Fengrong to attend brainwashing sessions. They refused to permit her to go to
the fields to harvest her crops in the fall. They compelled the villagers who
did not know the facts about Falun Dafa to monitor her. Village official Ding
Naiyu also forced her family to put up her house deed and her family members'
property as collateral to prevent her from going to Beijing, which meant that if
she appealed in Beijing, their property would be confiscated by the authorities.
[Jiang Zemin's policies severely punish officials from any area, should a
Falun Dafa practitioner from their area be arrested for appealing in Beijing.
Therefore, many of these regional officials use whatever methods they can to
prevent Falun Dafa practitioners from appealing for fair treatment for Falun
Dafa] In the August of 2000, Ding Naiyu and Liu Dianwu instructed villagers to keep
surveillance of the door to her home and monitor her, which disrupted her normal
life. In May of 2001, when Lan Fengrong was practicing Falun Gong in the Huayuan
Village, officers from the Jincheng Street police precinct came to interfere.
They kicked and broke her tape player. Village official Ding Naiyu as well as Yu
Zhanjun and Sui Guangcheng from the police precinct came to her home to search
for Dafa books. The village officials hired villagers to monitor her movements. In 2002, village officials Ding Naiyu, Zhang Rongxiang, Guo Shuyun and other
police personnel frequently came to her home to harass her. Other Dafa practitioners including Liu Yuanjie, Liu Qingyi, and Zhang Shuxia
were also subjected to the persecution to various extents. (1) Yuan is the Chinese unit of currency. The average income of an urban
worker in China is around 500 Yuan. (2) The 610 Office is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong,
with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other
