Dafa Practitioners Tortured in Jilin Prison's "Correctional Hospital"
(Clearwisdom.net) Jilin Prison is a facility that houses criminals
with heavy sentences. The inmates there are mostly criminals charged with
serious crimes, such as murder, arson, and robbery, etc. Their sentences
generally range from 10 or more years to life imprisonment, even including death
sentences. During the several years of persecution of innocent Falun Dafa
practitioners, many male practitioners in Jilin Province were illegally
sentenced and sent to Jilin Prison; their terms of imprisonment range from three
to twenty years. Jilin Prison was renovated and designated a "Model Prison."
According to prison rules, murderers and criminals with life sentences are
allowed to meet their families once a week and have a meal with them. Family
members are allowed to bring daily necessities for the inmates during these
visits. Dafa practitioners, however, are not allowed to share meals with their
families and they are not allowed to receive daily necessities from them. The
food given to Dafa practitioners is of a much lower quality than that given to
the criminals. The prison has eleven wards open to the public. The No. 6 Ward is
specially used for public visits and inspections. Conditions in the No. 6 Ward
are better. A prison cell in the No. 6 Ward that holds forty prisoners has a
single bed for each prisoner and a place to keep personal items. When people
come to visit and inspect, prisoners are not allowed to be indoors.
Occasionally, a criminal falls sick and cannot work, but he is still not allowed
to stay indoors. The other wards are vastly different. The cells have the same
floor area but seventy people are squeezed onto a huge common bed; each person
has sleeping space only 50 cm. wide. These prisoners have no place to keep their
belongings and have difficulty squeezing back into the sleeping space after
returning from the washroom at night. The prison also has a "strict control" team. After more than one
hundred Dafa practitioners went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution,
the prison administration set up a "correctional hospital" specifically
to persecute Dafa practitioners. The warden often warns steadfast Dafa
practitioners, "You will have a few days to write a letter renouncing your
faith; otherwise, you will be sent to the correctional hospital." There are
various torture devices in the "correctional hospital" such as the "Dead
Person's Bed" (1) and the "Big Hang-Up" (2). It is very difficult
to gain release from this torture chamber unless one yields. Even if one managed
to get out, it would only have been after suffering torture to the point of
having a mental breakdown. Faced with the evil persecution, most of the Dafa
practitioners have withstood the cruel tortures and steadfastly given solemn
declarations stating that the brainwashing classes are useless and that they
will remain firm in their cultivation of Dafa. The latest news is that Jilin Prison has intensified the persecution of Dafa
practitioners. Administrators stopped all family visits to steadfast Dafa
practitioners, practitioners who held hunger strikes, and practitioners who have
suffered brutal torture. They did this in an attempt to seal the news of the
persecution and conceal their crimes. Before Liu Chengjun died at the hands of the government for using the
television system to expose the campaign of genocide being carried out in China,
Jilin prison tortured another Dafa practitioner to death. The particulars of
this practitioner's case are not yet available. (1) Dead Person's Bed: The four limbs of the practitioner are stretched
out and tied to the four corners of a cold metal bed, leaving the practitioner
unable to move. He is not allowed to get up to eat, drink, or use the toilet.
This treatment lasts from several hours up to more than a dozen days. This type
of torture causes severe mental and physical damage to the practitioner. (2) Big Hang-Up: There are two forms in this torture: 1) With both hands
cuffed behind the back and tied, one is suspended by the rope, which is tied to
the metal window frame, so that only the toes touch the ground; 2) One hand of a
practitioner is cuffed to one bunk bed and the other hand to another bed, and
the two beds are pulled apart. Extreme pain results. March 3, 2004
