The Persecution of Practitioners in Wuan City, Hebei Province: Wang Gaibian Tortured to Death, Chen Xiuming's Whereabouts Are Unknown


(Clearwisdom.net) Wang Gaibian, a Falun Dafa practitioner from Datong Town, Wuan City, Hebei Province was abducted in March of 2002 and taken to the Wuan Detention Center. He was tortured almost to the point of death. On April 18, 2003, two months after he was released, he passed away.

Mr. Wang Gaibian was 60 years old. In March 2002, Mr. Wang was arrested by police from the Datong police station in Wuan City and sent to the Wuan Detention Center. At the detention center, the police forced him to rip cotton for more than twelve hours a day. Sometimes, the police used a leather scourge to thrash him. They also punished him by forcing him to stand for long periods of time. Mr. Wang became very weak because of the torture. However, the police wouldn't release him. Instead, they illegally sentenced him to "reeducation through forced labor." He was sent to the Handan Forced Labor Camp. Because he exhibited symptoms of several illnesses, the labor camp would not accept him. Therefore, Mr. Wang was sent back to the Wuan Detention Center. The police didn't release him until after he was tortured almost to the point of death. Less than two months after he was released, he died.

The following are details of other practitioners in Wuan who have also suffered persecution:

Mr. Chen Miying is a resident of Datong Town. In March 2002, Mr. Chen was arrested by police from the Datong Police Station and put in an iron cage. Later, the police tied him up and used electric batons to shock him and used a rubber baton to beat him. Mr. Chen's whole body was covered with bruises. The police didn't stop the beating until he lost consciousness. Mr. Chen was then sent to the Shijiazhuang Forced Labor Camp and sentenced to two years of "reeducation through forced labor."

Ms. Chen Xiulan, 60 years old, is a Falun Dafa practitioner in Wuan. In January 2002, she was abducted and taken to the Wuan Detention Center. She was sentenced to "reeducation through forced labor." Because Ms. Chen showed symptoms of hypertension, the labor camp refused to accept her. Ms. Chen was sent back to the Wuan Detention Center. At the detention center, Ms. Chen lost consciousness several times because of hypertension. The police still wouldn't release her. At present, Ms. Chen's whereabouts are unknown.

According to partial statistics, one Wuan practitioner was reported to have been tortured to death, and there is another practitioner whose whereabouts are unknown. Six practitioners have been forced to become homeless to avoid being arrested at their homes. Three practitioners were sentenced to prison and sixteen have been sentenced to labor camps. Over 100 practitioners have been detained. Practitioners were subjected to heavy fines, usually of more than 10,000 yuan [500 yuan is the average monthly income for an urban worker in China]. Since the persecution began on July 1999, the persecutors have been holding brainwashing classes. At present, they still abduct Falun Dafa practitioners and take them to the classes.
