(Clearwisdom.net) In August 2003, my daughter had just graduated from college and was recruited by the same office where I work. Several days before she was supposed to start, the person in charge of our human resources office asked my daughter for an interview. He said: "Your qualifications are very good, although there is one problem. You mother practices Falun Gong. Can you tell me your opinion about your mother?" My daughter said candidly: "Not too long ago, my mother was a terminally ill, dying from colon cancer. Medicine and chemotherapy did not help her. Since my mother started practicing Falun Gong in 1996, she has gained excellent health, which you all know. My mother hasn't spent a dime on treating her illnesses for the past 7 years. I have also gained benefits from her practice. I cannot say anything against my conscience and I support Falun Gong."

Several days later, all of the other new recruits started their jobs but my daughter's position had not yet been settled. My daughter and I went to see the supervisors at the office together several times. The director said: "The Party Committee held a meeting and decided not to hire anybody with Falun Gong tendencies." We also went to see the general manager many times. Finally, he said: "It is your mother's personal decision to practice Falun Gong. We will only require that you write an article regarding your understanding of Falun Gong, otherwise, we will no longer discuss your application." Subsequently, my daughter wrote an article analyzing Jiang's politican gang's staged "self-immolation incident" on Tiananmen Square, pointing out all the flaws and exposing the facts. When the supervisors had read it, they passed it on to other personnel in all sections to read. Finally, the director said: "The article is in favor of Falun Gong. She has positive thoughts towards Falun Gong." At that time, I told the director: "Falun Gong teaches people to be good people, to be genuinely good people according to the principles of 'Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance.' We did not do anything wrong. You have only been allowed to know one-sided statements on state-run TV."

This incident had a very big influence on our relatives and friends, as well as on the employees of the office and their family members. They all talked about it. Someone said: "How can the office treat a child in this way!" Another person said to my daughter: "Why are you such a fool? You could have gotten the job just by saying a few meaningless words." My daughter calmly replied: "Of course, the job is important, but I cannot betray my own conscience."
