A Partial Record of the Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in Gongan County, Hubei Province
(Clearwisdom.net) According to the Clearwisdom.net reports, at least 38 Falun Gong
practitioners have been tortured to death in Hubei Province. In Gongan County,
some officials and police officers persecuted and harassed local Falun Gong
practitioners in various ways. The following is a partial list of Falun Gong
practitioners and some details of the persecution they have suffered: 1. Ms. Guo Henghong is a 32-year-old university graduate and former employee
of the Dongqiao Factory. She started practicing Falun Gong in 1996 and has been
arrested three times. On New Year's Day in 2000, she was arrested from her work
place and suffered various tortures in the detention center. Police officers
handcuffed and shackled her to a door, and they twisted her arms and handcuffed
her behind the back. She was also beaten up. When all the others were released,
she was still detained. She went on a hunger strike to protest, but police
officers violently force-fed her causing damage to her stomach. As she was
dying, she was released. One year later, she died from the injuries caused by
the torture. 2. Mr. Tang Defu is a resident of Gaoqiang Village. Before he practiced Falun
Dafa, he was not a good person. He used to curse and beat his wife frequently
and his children were afraid of him. After he started practicing Falun Gong in
1998, he corrected his bad habits and his whole family became harmonious. When Tang was a tough and mean person, police officers dared not to touch
him. Now, practicing Falun Gong has turned him into a good person, but police
officer Liao Xuesheng tried to arrest him more than ten times. After July 2001,
Tang had to leave home to avoid further persecution. Last year, policeman Xu
from Xinqgu Police station went to Tang's home again to arrest him but was
driven away by more than 100 villagers. One elderly villager questioned Xu while
holding his collar: "When Tang Defu behaved badly, you did not care. Now
that he has become a good person through learning Falun Gong you come to arrest
him. What morals and manners do you want people to follow?" 3. Mr. Tan Xiangming is a 77-year-old, county level, model worker from Gaocun
Village. He started practicing Falun Gong in 1998. Before that, he was only able
to lie on a bed and take various medicines while suffering from numerous
diseases. After he started practicing Falun Gong, all the diseases disappeared,
he did many good things for the village, and he became more and more energetic.
In December 2000, the road from the village to the major highway was damaged by
a heavy rainfall. Mr. Tan repaired the road. Villagers walking on the repaired
road said, "It would be so nice if more people were Falun Gong
practitioners!" One day in March 2003, a large group of police officers suddenly came in 12
police cars and arrested Tan. They took him to a detention center and searched
his home. In the detention center, they forced the elderly man to sit in
military style facing a wall. He was not allowed to move or even talk. Tan
protested, but they slapped his face. They interrogated him many times. He
suffered a lot both mentally and physically during his detention, which lasted
more than forty days. 4. Mr. Liu Biqiang is a 41-year-old worker at the Chemical Fertilizer
Factory. He started practicing Falun Gong in 1997. After the persecution
started, he was detained one time for more than one month for practicing the
exercises outdoors. In July 2001, police officer Liao Xuesheng broke into his
home and abducted Liu, who had been sleeping, and detained him for 16 months.
During the detention period, Liu suffered from a lot of torture. Once, he was
handcuffed and shackled for three days and nights, which caused his hands and
feet swell. The pain was unbearable. He was also nearly blinded by the torture.
In May 2003, he was arrested again for making truth clarification materials and
was sent to a forced labor camp. He is still being detained. 5. Ms. Luo Changhong is 26 years old. After Jiang's regime started
persecuting Falun Gong, she wrote a letter to the country's leaders to clarify
the truth of Falun Gong, but she was persecuted because of the letter. She was
arrested three times. The first time, she was detained several months and was
released after having 3,000 Yuan (1) extorted from her. The second time, she was
arrested while at a friend's home. The third time was in September 2001. She was
arrested at her home and was sent to forced labor camp for one and a half years.
After the term came to an end, she was taken back by a police officer from
Gongan County, and was detained for two more months before being released. 6. Mr. Mao Yuankun is 45 years old and lives at the Seeds Field. In 1995, he
fell down while doing some construction work for others and was disabled. After
he started practicing Falun Gong in 1998, Mr. Mao recovered in only a few
months. Witnessing the miracles of Dafa, his wife and teenage son also started
practicing Falun Gong. Because of this, his family began enjoying a happy life.
In 2001, he repaired a muddy road at his own expense. His neighbors all said
that Mao became a good person because of Falun Gong. After Jiang's regime
started the persecution, Mao's son was arrested twice and his wife was once
detained for more than twenty days. At noon on Mid-Autumn Festival day 2003
(August 15 on the Chinese lunar calendar), Liao Xuesheng arrested Mao Yuankun at
'his home and took his bank deposit book with over 5,000 Yuan in it, and tried
to arrest his son. Mao's family has been forced to leave home to avoid arrest. 7. Mr. Chen Xiaoru is a 62-year-old resident of the Qianfeng Village,
Jiazhuyuan Township. He suffered from many diseases before practicing Falun
Gong, and had gone through six surgeries. After practicing Falun Gong, he
regained his health. His mind became clear also and he reconciled with his wife
after having been separated from her for many years. Despite these positive
changes, he was detained three times for his persistence in practicing Falun
Gong. At midnight on New Year's Day 2001, he was arrested at home and sentenced
to two years in a forced labor camp. 8. Mr. Zhang Guoliang is a self-employed 26-year-old from Jiazhuyuan
Township. He started practicing Falun Gong in June 1997. On New Year's Day 2001,
he was arrested and sentenced to three and a half years in a forced labor camp.
His wife had to take their 2-year-old daughter to stay with her mother's family. 9. Mr. Dai Hong is a 50-year-old employee of the Jiazhuyuan Life Insurance
Company. Before he started practicing Falun Gong in 1997, he used to indulge in
drinking, smoking, and gambling. After he started practicing Falun Gong, he
corrected many of his unhealthy habits and has been following the principles of
"Truth-Compassion-Tolerance" to be a good person. The first time he
was arrested, he was detained for over one month. At midnight on New Year's Day
2001, he was once again arrested from home and detained for over six months. His
family spent over 10,000 Yuan before he was released. 10. Ms. Jiang Hong is a 46-year-old employee from the Gongan Building Group.
She started practicing Falun Gong in 1996 and has been following the principles
of "Truth-Compassion-Tolerance." Since the persecution started, she
has been clarifying the truth of Falun Gong to people and has continued to
practice. In October 2000, she was arrested at Shishou County, Hubei Province,
and was sentenced to forced labor for one year. In March 2003, she was arrested
again at Xianning city. She was sentenced to one year in a forced labor camp and
still has not been released. 11. Ms. Wang Xianzhen is a 39-year-old doctor who runs her own clinic. She
started practicing Falun Gong in 1996. In May 2003, she was arrested while
making truth clarification materials. Police officers twisted her arms behind
her back and handcuffed her. They searched her home using the keys they found on
her. Officers stole her bank deposit book that had over 200 Yuan in it and
detained her for more than 20 days. Her sister paid 10,000 Yuan (5,000 Yuan as
fine, 5,000 Yuan as a "gift") before Wang Xianzhen was released. 12. Ms. Hong Lieju is a 45-year-old teacher at the Douhuti Primary School.
She started practicing Falun Gong in 1999. She was arrested twice from her home.
She went to Beijing to appeal twice, but was arrested and detained for about
three years and was cruelly tortured by police officer Liao Xuesheng and others.
She has also been sent to mental hospitals many times. The last time, she was
sent there for two and a half months where she was frequently strapped onto a
bed and injected with nerve-damaging drugs. Sometimes, they opened her mouth
with pliers and force-fed her the drugs, causing her mouth to bleed. If she
refused to take the drugs, the police officers ordered doctors to shock her with
electricity. Her life was endangered many times by the tortures. Liao Xuesheng extorted more than 10,000 Yuan from Hong Lieju's work unit. In
October 2003, police officers went to her school again to ask for 5,000 Yuan by
threatening to send her to a brainwashing center in Wuhan City, but the school
refused to pay. 13. Ms. Lei Yonglian is 45 years old and owns a small business. She started
practicing Falun Dafa in 1999 and was arrested three times. In July 2001, she
went to Beijing to appeal for fair treatment of Falun Gong, but was escorted
back by police officers from Gongan county and detained. She has a son in high
school. After she was arrested, her son lost his only source of support.
Sometimes her son relied on his classmates to lend him money or food, and
sometimes he had to eat left over food. Police officers knew that Lei Yonglian
didn't have any money that they could extort, so they sentenced her to three
years in jail and sent her to Wuhan City Forced Labor Camp. 14. Ms. Yi Youmei is 38 years old and lives at the Gongan Construction
Materials Company. She started practicing Falun Gong in 1999. She was arrested
for clarifying the truth of Dafa to police officers and has been suffering
serious persecution. Police twisted her arms behind her back and handcuffed her.
Then they paraded her through the streets to humiliate her. Once, police officer
Zhou Liangqing beat her until she was covered with injuries and was dying.
Afraid of having to take the responsibility, the police released her. However,
after a period of time, they arrested her again. She was detained four times. In
2001, she was sentenced to three years in the Wuhan Forced Labor Camp. '15. Ms. Gao Yonglian is a 51-year-old former employee of the Bed Sheets
Factory. She started practicing Falun Gong in 1996. Before practicing, she was a
hot-tempered person who almost broke the family apart. After practicing Falun
Gong, she disciplined herself by following the principles of
"Truth-Compassion-Tolerance," and became kind and reasonable. Her
relations with neighbors and family members all became harmonious. All who knew
Gao before said that Falun Gong is great and that Falun Gong changed Gao
Yonglian for the better. In December 2000, Gao Yonglian went to Beijing. As soon
as she arrived at Tiananmen Square, a policeman came and asked if she practices
Falun Gong. She said, "Yes," so the policeman brought her to the
Tiananmen Police Station. Days later, she was taken back by police officers from
Gongan County and was detained for over three months. In May 2003, Police
officer Liao Xuesheng tried to arrest her again, forcing her to leave home. She
could not even attend her mother's funeral. 16. Ms. Wang Xianzhen is 60 years old and lives at Douhuti. She started
practicing Falun Gong in 1998. Before she started the practice, she suffered
from over ten diseases and wanted to commit suicide because being alive with all
that pain seemed worse than being dead. However, she recovered only a few months
after she started practicing Falun Gong. 'Falun Gong gave her a second life.
After Jiang's regime started defaming and slandering Falun Gong, she tried her
best to tell people that Falun Gong is good. In August 2002, she was arrested
while telling people the facts of persecution of Dafa practitioners, and was
detained at the Gongan County Detention Center for 60 days. She went on hunger
strikes three times for a total of 25 days to protest the illegal detention.
Later, she was sent to the mental hospital for further persecution. Fellow
practitioners rescued her. For the past six months Wang Xianzhen has not
returned home in order to avoid arrest. 17. Ms. Wang Shaoqing is a 60-year-old resident of Donggang. She started
practicing Falun Gong in 1996. Before that, she suffered from many diseases and
her lower body was paralyzed. But she recovered after practicing Falun Gong.
Under the cruel persecution from Jiang's regime, she was detained four times for
a total of eight months. She went on hunger strikes several times. Wicked officers released her only after she was in critical condition. 18. Ms. Ni Youmei and Ms. Liu Ying were illegally sentenced to three years of
imprisonment by the Court at Gongan County in Hubei Province on April 6, 2002.
Both Ni Youmei's husband and Liu Ying's elder brother were present to defend
them. When Liu Ying's brother said, "If Liu Ying is sentenced, I will go
directly to the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress to appeal
for her," the court burst into thunderous applause. During the trial, the
officials were unable to advance any further argument to justify themselves, but
they still tried to reason fallaciously, and did not listen to the
practitioners' family members' upright defense. The corrupt officials made up
stories and framed the practitioners so they could sentence them to three years
of imprisonment. 19. Mr. Pei Jicheng works for the clinic in Qunjian Village. He has been
detained twice and suffered many tortures. The second time he was detained, his
weight dropped from 117 lbs. to 90 lbs. Because of his condition, they sent him
to Shayang, but because his health situation was so poor the police refused to
accept him so they released him. In order to tell others the truth of the persecution, his mother Xie
Chengzhen (a non-practitioner from Gongan County Paper Factory in Hequnjian
Village) handed out truth-clarifying literature with her sister (also a
non-practitioner) on the night of February 12, 2004. Unfortunately, they were
abducted by the local police station and the "610 office" (2) and
detained in the detention center. The policemen also ransacked her house. 20. Ms. Li Jing is a staff member of the Real Estate Bureau and the mother of
a 6 year-old child. Ms. Ju Jingjiao is a teacher in a kindergarten and the
mother of a 10 year-old child. Ms. Zhou Yonglian is an employee of a Chemical
Fertilizer Factory and the mother of a 7 year-old child. In October 2002, these
three young mothers were arrested when they were clarifying the truth about the
persecution to the public. Before this, Li Jing wrote a letter to policeman Liao
Xuesheng to encourage good behavior. However, Liao Xuesheng harbored resentment
in his heart and sentenced the three young mothers to 2 years of forced labor at
the Shayang Forced Labor Camp. (1) Yuan: Chinese currency, the monthly salary for an average Chinese
urban worker is about 500 Yuan. (2) "610 Office": a bureau specifically created by the
Chinese government to persecute Falun Gong. It has absolute power over each
level of administration in the Party, as well as over the political and
