Attempt to Arrest Elderly Falun Gong Practitioner Causes Public Outcry against Police Officers from the Dongxihu District

(Clearwisdom.net) In August 2003, Liu Gongping, deputy head of the Xincun Police Station who personally controls the persecution of Falun Gong went with other officers to arrest Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Hu Wangxiang. Ms. Hu lives in the Yuanyi Residential Area. People who observed this incident became outraged. Under pressure of from the public's anger, Liu Gongping left two people behind to monitor the area and left with the other policemen.

When this happened, elderly practitioner, Ms. Hu Wangxiang was tending the fruit stand for her son and couldn't leave. Liu Gongping thought it wouldn't be good to arrest her at that time and appointed two policemen to remain on stakeout.

At four o'clock in the afternoon, Liu Gongping came again to arrest Ms. Hu. Because she non-violently resisted the arrest, Liu Gongping attacked her and restrained her arms while attempting to force her into the police van.

Six or so of her neighbors present watched the entire incident and condemned Liu Gongping's action of arresting good people. They said that this elderly woman was a good person who didn't commit any wrongdoing, didn't break the law, only practiced Falun Gong and cultivated according to Truth-Compassion-Forbearance. They asked why a good person should be arrested!

More and more people arrived and gathered to watch, and jammed the road. One by one, people condemned the police's evildoings. Faced with the pressure of such a display of public anger, Liu Gongping had to let go of Ms. Hu, but said, "Hu Wangxiang, you should come to the police department yourself this evening." Liu Gongping appointed two officers to keep watch and went away with the other policemen.

At six o'clock in the evening, four police cars arrived. Liu Gongping ordered Hu Wangxiang's son to turn over his mother, Ms. Hu, but her son didn't know where she was. The police then started to search everywhere. Because of the persecution she was facing, the elder Hu Wangxiang had no choice but to leave home.

Liu Gongping from the Xincun Police Station in the Dongxihu District often arrived with some police to search Falun Gong practitioners' home and arrest practitioners. The deputy section head Zhang Changfa, officers Huang and Wang and others, a total of six to seven people, all were active in searching practitioners' home and arresting practitioners.
