Canadian Resident Tries to Rescue Her Mother, Ms. Yang Huizhen, who Is Illegally in Detained in Dandong City, Liaoning Province

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Yang Huizhen, 60 years old, is a Dafa Practitioner from Dandong City, Liaoning Province. She is the mother of Zhang Chunyu, a resident of British-Columbia, Canada.

In May 2004, Yang Huizhen was arrested by the political security department of the Dandong City Public Security Bureau, and is now detained at Baifang Detention Center, Dandong City.

At about 7 p.m. on May 24, 2004, more than ten police officers, headed by Yu Deqing, Cao Yujia and Sha Lixia, broke into Yang Huizhen's home. They arrested Yang Huizhen, searched her home, and left her husband, who is seriously ill, alone on the bed. In facing the violence, Yang Huizhen did not yield, and kept on shouting, "Falun Dafa is good!" the whole time. The same evening, around 10 p.m., police officers went to the home of Yang Huizhen's daughter, Zhang Chungang, and arrested her. The police had no legal basis for these arrests.

According to Zhang Chunyu, Yang Huizhen is a doctor. In 1994, after she retired, she opened a clinic. She had formerly been unable to cure her own illnesses. Yet, after she began to practice Falun Gong, her chronic diseases, including arthritis, kidney malfunction, and heart problems were cured within a few months. Ever since she began to practice Falun Gong, she found cost savings and helpful ways for her patients. Many patients regarded her as they would a long lost relative. After ten years of clinical practice, she became the first choice or even the only choice for many patients. She treats all patients kindly, and reduces her fee for poorer patients. Countless patients have benefited from her free treatments. There were some patients who refused to pay, even after their diseases were cured. She always took such issues lightly. Some patients stole some of the clinic's equipment and took it home. However, once they heard of Dr. Yang's great reputation, they secretly returned the equipment to the clinic.

Since the persecution of Falun Gong started in July 1999, Yang Huizhen has been detained three times. Local police officers tried several times to take her to brainwashing centers, but she resisted and did not go. On November 30, 1999, Dr. Yang was detained at the Dandong City Detention Center for one month, only because she did the Falun Gong exercises outdoors. On February 22, 2000, while Yang Huizhen was watching the flag raising ceremony at Tiananmen Square, plain-clothes police officers found out she was a Falun Gong practitioner. They arrested her and took her back to Dandong City. She was forced to pay 2,000 yuan (1), and was detained for one month and 12 days at the Dandong City Detention Center. She was forced to do hard labor there and her family members were not allowed to visit.

Zhang Chunyu said, "Though my elder sister Zhang Chungang has been released, my mother Yang Huizhen is still illegally detained at the Baifang Detention Center where she is forced to do hard labor and no family visits are allowed."

Zhang Chunyu has appealed to human rights organizations in Canada and to the United Nations, so that Yang Huizhen can regain her freedom. The persecution of Falun Gong launched by Jiang's regime violates the Chinese Constitution, the United Nations Human Rights Treaty, the United Nations Charter, and basic human rights the world over.
