Dear Chief Song,

I am one of the police officers in Shouguang City who used to be "at the frontline in the battle against Falun Gong" from 1999 to 2003. I often received brochures and letters from Falun Gong practitioners, but I discarded them right away without ever taking a look. One day, one of my friends looked me up and told me the true situation about Falun Gong and the persecution. He gave me a VCD and a pamphlet. I thought to myself that even though the persecution has been going on for four or five years, these people remain undaunted, so there must be a good reason. It wouldn't hurt to take a look through the little pamphlet.

I learned how to break through the Chinese government's tight internet blockade and get to the Falun Gong website, Minghui.net [English version Clearwisdom.net]. I checked it out and I was stunned - the persecution of Falun Gong is based completely on lies. I was indignant that Jiang Zemin has deceived the people all over the world, especially the Chinese people and us, the police. We erroneously carried out orders from above and did such awful things. Now I thoroughly understand that Falun Gong is good, is the best in the world, and is the practice of "Truth, Compassion and Tolerance."

I have done a great deal of harm to Falun Gong practitioners and am very remorseful now. Why was I so muddleheaded and do such awful things to such good people, even if I was merely carrying out orders from above? I put it down to the fact that I didn't know much about Falun Gong. If I should be ordered to do it now, I wouldn't do it even if I were beaten to death, because that would be helping a tyrant to do evil. It is just like what the Falun Gong practitioners told me: "You are all deceived by Jiang." But I had turned a deaf ear to them.

I want to make up for what I have done and say to those I have hurt, "I am truly sorry." I would also like to, with all good intentions, urge you not to harm Falun Gong any more, and leave yourself an escape route, since we must all ultimately pay for all we have done. Jiang is being sued in many countries. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police has on record to immediately investigate Chinese officials who are implicated in the persecution should they set foot in Canada, and take further legal action if warranted. Falun Gong is practiced in over 60 countries. Practitioners worldwide seek redress and are taking legal actions on behalf of their fellow practitioners in Mainland China. But China's government is vigorously blocking all this news so that we don't know about it (you should get on the Minghui website to see for yourself)! and we go and do those awful things.

For the sake of you, me, all our colleagues and our descendents we must not persecute Falun Gong any more. It is not too late to stop. If we don't stop now, the consequences would be unthinkable. Chief Song, please think it over, Jiang is no longer the chairman of our country, we needn't risk our lives for him, and he also doesn't do us any good! It is said that the suppression of Falun Gong is all because of Jiang, Luo Gan and a few others. The majority of the high-level people in the central government are against the suppression. I dare predict that this situation won't last much longer. After all, the persecution of Falun Gong is based totally on lies. Now that I understand it thoroughly I believe the facts regarding Falun Gong will soon be exposed, and those who are directly involved in the persecution will not be able to escape their historic culpability. Such precedents are too numerous, for example, Germany's Hitler and the "Gang of Four" in our country.

Why do I write to you? First, I want to make up for my crimes. Second, the persecution of Falun Gong in Shouguang city is very severe. Third, you are the leader, influential, and have the ability to bring it under control; so you can play a major role to stop the persecution. Fourth, I sympathize with and want to help the Falun Gong practitioners who have been illegally arrested, held, imprisoned, sent to labor camps, and fined merely because of their belief. Fifth, our detention center is still holding a number of Falun Gong practitioners. For your future's sake, please don't persecute them, and release them as soon as possible. Chief Song, we all have parents and children. All of us have a heart. I grieve to see so many persecuted like this without cause.

I truly hope you will come forth to stop this horrible thing! How I wish the persecution of Falun Gong in our Shouguang city would never happen again! Please release those who have been detained. What crimes have they committed? Why are they sentenced to so many years in labor camp? It is very likely that Falun Gong will be exonerated very soon! Those with hands stained with blood in this matter will be sorry! I dare say that it is the most stupid thing in the world for them to persecute Falun Gong. Whoever supports Falun Gong is doing a good thing and will be handsomely rewarded. We need to take a long view, and not just do things for today. We must not do awful things to harm others, and even less to help the tyrant to do evil!
