On August 17, after 8:00 a.m., Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Ma Xia, an employee of Baige Group Company, went to Liu Village at Dagang in Zhongyuan District to distribute Falun Gong truth-clarifying materials and raise public awareness of the persecution. Informants alerted the police. Ms. Ma was arrested and later transferred to the Zhongyuan Branch Police Department. Several officers showed up at her home the same morning and confiscated Falun Dafa books, portraits of the founder of Falun Gong and some truth-clarifying documents. Ms. Ma has been placed under detention by the branch police department. Her 13-year-old child and mother, nearly 80 years old and blind, have been left without anyone to care for them.

On August 16, 2004, Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Du Jinling was arrested by the Fushun State Security Unit at a farmer's market. The police ransacked her home in Hongtoushan Town in Qingyuan County and confiscated Falun Dafa books. She was sent to Fushun City at 4:00 p.m.

On the evening of August 17, 2004, Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Qiu Guihua was arrested by the Fushun State Security Unit. A copy machine was confiscated and her home was barricaded by the police. Falun Dafa practitioner Yang Boliang was also arrested.

On July 14, 2004, police arrested Falun Dafa practitioners Fu Mingjie and his wife Ren Changxue, who live on Haicheng Street in Wanghua District, Fushun City, Liaoning Province. The couple has been sentenced to forced labor. Mr. Fu is being was sentenced to three years and at the Fushun City Forced Labor Camp. Ms. Ren has been transferred to the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp in Shenyang City, and has been given a two-year term.

In July 2003 Hefei police and members of the "610 Office" arrested several Falun Dafa practitioners, including Mr. Wang Yu, Mr. Ji Guangjie, Mr. Hu Enkui, and Ms. Ma Yulan. Officers secretly held the practitioners in a hotel room for inhumane torture during interrogation. Mr. Ji was deprived of sleep for three days and nights. Mr. Hu was handcuffed and suspended off the ground for five days. Scars on his injured wrists could still be seen clearly eight months afterwards, and he also became crippled from brutal beatings and cannot walk normally. Families of the practitioners were not aware of the situation until July 30, 2004 when the practitioners were unlawfully put on trial. Because of measures taken by the police, the families were unable to get more detailed information.

Falun Dafa practitioner Jiao Mingfeng in Changchun City has been arrested. Jiao is being held at Unit 5 of Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp in Changchun City for torture.

Falun Dafa practitioners Wang Kaibo and Wang Xiaohua, who were arrested by special agents from the Kaifeng City State Security Bureau in Henan Province, remain in custody at the detention center, where they are subjected to inhumane torture.

On July 17, 2004 Falun Dafa practitioner Li Tangchao was arrested by Santaizi Police Station from Li's home in Linghai City, Liaoning Province, and taken to the Linghai City Detention Center. Li is currently being held at the Jinzhou Forced Labor Camp. Also arrested at this same time was a female practitioner, who had been released after fifteen days of detention.
