Mr. Yuan Shunhua of East China Normal University Deprived of the Right of Study


(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Yuan Shunhua, age 26, began his undergraduate studies at the Department of Art Education of East China Normal University in 1997. He began practicing Falun Gong in 1998. Since he was able to conduct himself according to "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance," he was well liked by his classmates and teachers. His grades improved rapidly, putting him at the top of his class, and he was elected as the class monitor.

On July 20, 1999, the university heads (Wang Jian of university party secretary and head of university security department and department head Wang Youxiang) had several private talks with him, threatening him with removal from his class monitor post and expulsion from the Youth League of Chinese Communist Party. They pressured his family, trying to coerce him into denouncing Falun Gong and criticizing Falun Gong in accordance with Party propaganda.

In 2000, Yuan Shunhua went to Beijing twice to report to the education committee and central government on the unfair treatment he received to no avail. On the contrary, he was illegally detained, sent to a labor camp and deprived of the right to go to school.
