Beijing Bus Company Rejects Job Candidates Who Have Practiced Falun Gong
By Lu Buping
(Clearwisdom.net) BEIJING BASHI CO., LTD is one of the first publicly
owned enterprises in Beijing's public transportation system. The main business
of this company is providing public transportation in Beijing. In February 16, 2001, Beijing Bashi Co., LTD went on the Shanghai stock
market. As a share-limited corporation, Beijing Bashi established a website
http//www.newbjbus.com and published information about the company. This reflected part of the
company's efforts to meet international standards and increase its transparency. On the company's website, one can see the following descriptions: Our enterprise's spirit: Humanity is the foundation and good faith is the
soul. Our enterprise's mission: Full devotion to customers is our responsibility. Our enterprise's slogan: To establish the BASHI's image and to promote
BASHI's style and goodness. However, what follows doesn't seem to be right. In the job requirements for
bus drivers and conductors, words like this appeared: 3. Good political
thinking, no records of violation of laws or rules before the job interview,
never joined illegal organizations such as Falun Gong; (please see details at
http://www.newbjbus.com/frontend/pages/gsdt/zxns.htm) Good political thinking. What does this mean? Does it mean persisting in the
Four Fundamental Principles? Supporting the Communist party? Supporting the
"Three Represents?" It was not stated clearly, and seems to be up to
the recruiting manager's own judgment. No violations of laws and rules. What defines a violation of laws? No
violation of criminal laws or no violation of traffic rules? What does
"violation of rules" mean? The act of spitting in public places will
be fined and would be called a violation of rules. How do you make sure that
applicants do not have any violations of laws and rules? The definition is not
clear and seems to be up to the hiring manager's discretion. Never joined illegal organizations such as Falun Gong, etc. So as long as
someone practiced Falun Gong before, whether that person is still practicing or
not, he or she has no right to apply for a job? What kind of requirement is
this? Even the official propaganda of the Communist Party against Falun Gong
dared not to be so direct. Is it said that opportunities should be given to
those people? If other companies or work units acted like this, aren't millions
of Falun Gong practitioners (including those who practiced before) automatically
deprived of employment opportunities? Isn't it the company's basic rule that
humanity is essential? Aren't Falun Gong practitioners human beings? How could
they be treated differently than others? Jiang Zemin wanted to treat Falun Gong like this: "Ruin their
reputations, bankrupt them financially, and destroy them physically." Since
there was not any documentation on paper for these words, some people do not
believe that Jiang Zemin could be so evil. The requirements for this company's
jobs provide first hand proof of this policy. The Communist party wants to not
only eliminate Falun Gong, but also to persecute anyone who has practiced Falun
gong before. There are two legal representatives for the company posted on the web: Ms. Zhao Wenzi, 45, MS degree and senior politician. She was deputy secretary
of the Beijing Communist Youth Party and the party secretary of the
organization, vice chairwomen of Beijing Youth Union, vice secretary of Beijing
Construction Committee. She is now the head of the board of BEIJING BASHI and
the communist party secretary of Beijing Public Transportation, Inc. Mr. Zhang Guoguang, 49, MS degree and financial management specialist. He has
been assistant CEO of the Beijing Motor Bus Company, vice president of the No. 1
Bus Company, party secretary and assistant CEO of a public transportation and
real estate development company, CEO and deputy party secretary of a motor bus
company, and CEO of the passenger bus branch company of Beijing Public
Transportation Inc. He is now deputy head of the board, CEO, and vice party
secretary of BEIJING BASHI. Ms. Zhao and Mr. Zhang: I want to say a few words to you. It is not wise for
your company to do things like this. In any democratic society, what you did
would be illegal. Even in China today, what you have done is extreme. Please
look at the people around you who practice Falun Gong. Are they not good, honest
people who are devoted to the society and abide by the laws? Many leaders in
work units tried various ways to protect Falun Gong practitioners in their
organizations because they are the most reliable employees. Where can you find
these good people in today's society? But you have clearly stated that you want
to exclude them as job candidates. In addition, I also heard that Falun Gong overseas has formed the "World
Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong." This
organization will expose and sue those who participate in the illegal
persecution of Falun Gong. I heard that once they have confirmed evidence, those
persons, together with their spouses and children, are not allowed to enter
those democratic countries. Your company's job requirements are definitely part
of the persecution. How can you stop Falun Gong from investigating you? Being
the chair and vice chair of board committee, how can the two of you avoid this?
Please think it over carefully. Is it worth it to help Jiang Zemin persecute
good people? Thanks for your company's transparency. Your publicly listed contact
