Violence at the Brainwashing Center in Shanghai

(Clearwisdom.net) After the Supervision Team was moved from Dafeng to the Third "Labor Education" Center in Qingpu District, Shanghai City, policeman Xiang Jianzhong was nominated as the lead of the "Transformation Middle Team." Hong Congrong, the former team lead, took the position as the team director, and Gu Wenhao is now the Large Team Lead.

Since April 20, 2003 these people have accelerated the vicious persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. At that time, the Supervision Team also moved to the hospital of the education center, and was renamed "Direct Supervision Middle Team." At first, each Falun Gong practitioner was tightly monitored by 4 or 5 criminals, who took turns forcefully trying to "transform" the practitioner. They used various means, such as forcing the practitioner to sit straight on a tiny and low round stool, with their legs completely bound and hands on their knees. The practitioner was forced to stare at the posters on the wall with slanderous lies about Master and Dafa on them and was not allowed to move, or else he or she would be beaten.

The persecution started at 5:00 a.m. Upon getting up, the practitioner was forced to clean the whole room alone in half an hour while the criminals would lie in bed, smoking and cursing the practitioner. Afterwards the practitioner was made to sit on the stool until 2:00 a.m. the next day. The practitioner could not go to bed without getting permission from the lead on duty.

On the desk in each room were more than a dozen books that slandered Falun Gong. Practitioners were forced to read the books. The police also ordered the criminals to read the books, to prepare them for their brainwashing activities. For practitioners who were on hunger strike, the police would use 6 electric batons to torture them.

Xiang Jianzhong promised the criminals that if a practitioner renounced his beliefs, the prison terms of all the criminals in the room would be reduced by 6 days. In order to get more reduction in their terms, the criminals had set a target of "transforming" each practitioner in three days. Practitioners who endured the first two days of persecution would be heavily abused on the third day. They used all kinds of vicious means.

• "Riding in the Airplane" - Four people would drag the hands and legs of a practitioner and pull him up in the air. Another one would stuff dirty towels in the practitioner's mouth, so that people next door would not hear the moaning. Others would kick the practitioner between his or her legs. Some practitioners were burned with cigarettes.
• "Squat with Hands around the Head" - Squatting with the legs apart, two hands around over the head, pulling the head down between their legs. The hips are up for half a day. The police and the criminals also used the handle of toothbrushes to rub against practitioners' fingers, which caused bleeding. They also sprayed pesticides, which they called the "Refreshing Spray" on practitioners' faces.

When the team leads passed by, they would pretend they did not see any of the torture taking place and walk away. Some practitioners talked with them, telling them that Dafa was unfairly slandered. Xiang Jianzhong would shock them with electric batons on the lips, saying, "This is the Forceful Transformation Middle Team, with a 100% transformation rate. You will die if you do not transform."

On October 15, 2003, Falun Gong practitioner Lu Qingguo was beaten to death in one such torture room. Through international rescue efforts on the internet, these people then restrained themselves a little, but the police who committed the murder have yet to be punished by the law. Currently, Gu Wenhao has been transferred to another important position in the center. Hong Congrong was also promoted to be a cadre in the 1^st Team. Chen Jiangong, the vice team lead, incited the criminals' hatred toward practitioners. Other team members who participated in the crimes include: Sun Hongtao, the current Director; Zhu Huihong, team lead of the Special Administration Team, Shi Liqun, Zeng Lei, Zhao Wenyi, Sun Yu, Xiong Youlin, the Librarian, and the night shift team leads, including Yu Jixiang, Cai Jingen, Qiu Yanglun, and Gu Zhongmin, etc.

Currently the Middle Team is located on the ground level of the 1^st Large Team Building of the center. The Drug Rehabilitation Team is located on the three floors above. The ground floor is divided into the North Section (Room 1 - 7) and the South Section (Room 8-11). Practitioners stay in the North Section when they first arrive. They are locked up for forced "transformation" (eating, drinking, and relieving themselves in the same room), while the criminals can come into and out of the room at will. You can see criminals lying in bed smoking and playing cards all the time. Practitioners are forced to read and listen to slander and lies, and are not allowed to have visitors. They are almost completely isolated from the external world. They are also forced to buy pens and paper to write reports against their will.

According to practitioners in the education center, since Jiang went to Shanghai, Mo Xiaobao, the chairman of the Department of Law in Shanghai, inspected the center and ordered them to accelerate the "transformation." Chen Peimin, the head of the center, responded actively with brutal beatings and torture of practitioners.

We appeal to the international community to pay attention to these practitioners under persecution: Zhu Xueshi, Yuan Shunhua, Ding Zhibin, and others.
