Torture Cases of Falun Dafa Practitioners in Shijiazhang City's Beijiao Prison
(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Shi Yan was illegally sentenced to 11 years and detained
in the No. 7 Ward of Shijiazhuang City's Beijiao Prison. In order to extort a
confession from him, the police violently beat him. He was locked onto a metal
chair for over 40 days. One a day in October 2003, prisoner Xu Haiying beat him
on the chest, which caused him serious internal injuries. He vomited blood,
which the prison guards witnessed. Mr. Zhang Junmin, 43 years old, lived in Hugedong Village, Funing County. He
was arrested for photocopying Falun Gong truth-clarifying materials, sentenced
to seven years and was detained in the No. 7 Ward. On December 15, 2002, because
he practiced the Falun Gong exercises, he was locked in the guardhouse. Although
it was winter, the prison guard intentionally opened the window to let the cold
wind into the room. Three days later Zhang Junmin said to them, "You are
too inhuman! I will stop eating and will expose you on the Internet." As
they feared to be exposed, they then closed the window. When Zhang Junmin was
sent to forced brainwashing, he was beaten so violently that he could not see
clearly and his stomach swelled up and hurt very badly. He was forced to sit for
three days on a stool, which was placed upside down so that he had to sit on the
legs. Mr. Wang Wenwu, 36 years old, lived in the Yunhe District, Cangzhou City. He
was arrested on August 20, 2002, sentenced to 11 years and detained in the No.7
Ward. He was tortured for over 20 days, between February 25 and March17, 2003.
Those who participated in the torture include: Education Division head Wang
Guobin, Deputy Division head Yue Yuhai, Li Like, Zhao Jun, Zhang Zhonglin,
former prison guard Li Yabin of the No. 12 Ward, prisoners Liu Ximing, Chen
Guoquan and Ma Shujun, who has been released. The prison guards incited the
three prisoners to violently beat Wang Wenwu, deprive him of sleep for 24 hours,
and beat his fingertips and five of his ribs with a bamboo plank. His fingers
and palm were injured, and he suffered injuries to his internal organs so severe
he could barely turn over. The prison guards Yue Yuhai, Zhang Zhonglin and Li
Yabin personally beat Wang Wenwu. The prisoners used a stool to beat him on the
back. Wang Wenwu's face became swollen as a result of torture. He was forced to
sit for a long time on a stool, placed upside down. He was also forced to stand
for 48 hours and deprived of sleep for four days. He lost control of his speech
and started hallucinating. Mr. Liu Wenji, 51 years old, lived in Pingquan County, Chengde City. On
December 20, 2000, he was arrested for unfurling a banner at Tiananmen Square.
He was sentenced to four years and was detained in the No. 7 Ward. On April 11,
2000, after he had been illegally detained for 149 days, he was released after
the police extorted 3,000 yuan from him. On December 20, 2000, he
was violently beaten in Beijing City's Shunyi Police Station until past 2:00
a.m. the next morning. Five or six people surrounded him and kept beating him.
Although it was a very cold winter, they forced him to be naked until 11:00
p.m., and then poured cold water on him. The water on the floor soon turned into
ice and they forced him to sit on it. They tortured him in this way four or five times, which lasted over seven
hours. Some parts of his body lost all sensation. He was shocked with electric
batons over 150 times; his throat was swollen from the electric shocking. On
March 31, 2003, when he was in the brainwashing center of the No. 4 Ward he was
deprived of sleep, water and food and was forbidden to go to the toilet. The
prisoners particularly beat the most painful parts of his body; the upper parts
of his legs were totally black and have not recovered, even after three months.
They also forced him to sit cross-legged on a stool, which was placed upside
down in order for them to beat him. After such severe beatings, he was not able
move. Mr. Xu Jingbao, 42 years old, lived in No. 16, Xiangyang Houxiang, Dongguan
Xiangyang Street, Zhuolu County. On July 31, 2001 he was illegally arrested,
sentenced to five years and detained in the No. 7 Ward. He was detained seven
times during the period from July 20, 1999, to July 31, 2001. In the
brainwashing center, he was seriously persecuted. The guards forced him to sit
on a stool, which was placed upside down and did not allow him to sleep, making
his legs and feet numb, a condition that persists even today. On April 4, 2003,
the prison guards instructed the prisoners Xu Haiying, Lian Ailin, Huang Hui and
others to violently attack him on the chest, head, lower back, legs and feet.
His nose was also beaten and resulted in profuse nosebleeds. His lower back was
seriously injured. He still has not recovered and is still suffering from the
pain of the beatings. Sometimes the guards personally do the beatings. Political
Head Zhang Zhiguang and others from the No. 7 Ward instructed the prisoners to
beat practitioners at will. They also let the prisoners drink alcohol and
enticed them to beat practitioners by promising them that their terms would be
shortened or awarding them a score of 100. Mr. Yang Jingang, 34 years old, a teacher in Baoding City's Middle School,
lived in Dakan Xia Village, Mancheng County. In September 2002, he was illegally
detained for broadcasting truth-clarifying tapes with a loudspeaker, sentenced
to four years and detained in the No 6 Ward. Since July 20, 1999, he went to
Beijing twice to uphold Dafa and was locked in the Baoding Detention Center
twice for eleven and a half months. His work unit cut off his salary for almost
one year. After he returned to teach at the school, he was not allowed to
lecture in the classroom; instead, he was asked to do manual labor. During the
detention he has suffered physical and mental trauma. In late 2003, when he was
in the brainwashing center of the No. 4 Ward, he was terribly persecuted. Mr. Li Feng, 42 years old, lived in Anguo City, Hebei Province. In October
2002 he was arrested for clarifying the facts of the persecution to people. He
was sentenced to 15 years and detained in the No.1 Ward and then transferred
into the No. 4 Ward. Since August 23, 2001, he went into exile to avoid arrest.
On October 22, as he resisted the persecution, he was transferred from the
Baoding City No. 1 Prison to Shijiazhuang City's No. 4 Prison. Just after he
arrived at the No. 4 Prison, his appeals letter, blank notebook, law book and
magazines were confiscated. They also extorted money from him. On November 15,
2003, he was sent to a brainwashing class and was forced to watch programs
defaming Falun Gong and to read materials attacking Falun Gong. As a result, he
lost of control of his mind for several days. Mr. Ke Xingguo, 47 years old, is from Beijing. He was illegally arrested in
March 2001, and was sentenced to seven years. He was transferred from the No. 1
Ward into the No. 6 Ward. In 2000, in order to resist the forced brainwashing,
he went into exile to avoid the persecution. In January 2001 when he stopped
briefly at home, he was arrested and sent to forced brainwashing where he
suffered physical and mental trauma. After he escaped by jumping through a
window he was again arrested in Shen County, Hebei Province in March 2001.
There, the head of a detention center and the police ordered the prisoners to
beat and torture him. He suffered this inhuman treatment in Baoding City's No. 1
Prison for nine months, until he was transferred to the No. 4 prison. The criminals who have participated in persecuting him include: The Ministry of Agriculture: Party Secretary Zheng and Bai, Jiang Ping from
the Discipline Inspection Department, Guan Zhanyi from the Service Department,
and head Ren from the Security Division; Mr. Yang Yueliang, 51 years old, is a technician in the Yanshan County
Hospital. He was illegally arrested for telling people the facts about the Falun
Dafa persecution. He was sentenced to ten years and is now detained in the No. 9
Ward. The mistreatment he received: For the five years from July 20, 1999 to
present, he has experienced physical and mental torture under the persecution. Mr. Chai Baohua, 48 years old, is from Chaizhuangzi Village, Fengjiakou Town,
Nanpi County. On March 25, 2002, he was arrested for handing out Falun Gong
truth-clarification materials. He was given a sentence of seven years and is
detained in the No. 5 Ward. The mistreatment he received: On July 23, 1999, he rode a bicycle for three
days to go to Beijing to appeal. He was arrested and taken back to his hometown
and then detained for sixteen days. In 2000 he was arrested for three months and
fined over 300 yuan because the police found Falun Gong books during a search of
his home. At the end of December 2000 he was detained for 150 days for going to
Beijing to validate Dafa. During his detention, personnel from the police
department beat him up for over twenty minutes. In the detention center, four
persons took turns beating him. In 2001 he was arrested and detained for over
two months for distributing Falun Dafa materials. He was released after he held
a hunger strike, which lasted 25 days. Five days before the 2002 Spring Festival
he was arrested for distributing Falun Gong materials and was released after
five days of detention. On March 25, 2002, the police used a trick to get him
out of his home, arrested him and then gave sentenced him to seven years. In May
he was sent to the No.4 Prison. After he was sent there, he was beaten up twice
for sending forth righteous thoughts. He was tortured for six days in a forced
brainwashing center. During the long term detention he was tortured many times
by Pang Zhiyi and Zhao Aiguo. The ward leader did nothing to stop it nor did he
care about it. Mr. Yang Yanxiang, 36 years old, is from Daxinzhuang Village, Xiaoxinzhuang
Township, Xinji City. He is detained in the No. 5 Ward. The abuse he had to endure: He started to practice Falun Gong in November
2001 while he was detained in prison. The huge pressures that he has faced from
various sources could not change his determination in cultivating Falun Dafa. On
October 5, 2002, he was put into a solitary cell for fifteen days for
circulating Dafa materials among the practitioners. Because he refused to write
a letter to indicate he would give up the Falun Dafa practice, the guards forced
him to stand for fourteen hours each day, for109 days. As a result, his feet and
legs became swollen. One evening in August 2003, some prisoners found him
handwriting Dafa materials and reported him to the authorities. He was put into
a solitary cell for fifteen days (Each solitary confinement stay means an
extension of his prison term of two more years). His determined faith in Falun
Dafa frightened the evildoers. Although he has not finished reading Zhuan
Falun, he has been very diligent in his cultivation. Mr. Zhang Yang, 47 years old, is from 30-2-12 Yingqiuxili, Haigang District,
Qinhuangdao City. He was arrested for downloading Falun Dafa materials from the
Internet. He was given a twelve-year sentence and is now detained in the No. 9
Ward. Mr. Xia Xingmin, 52 years old, is a cadre from the Changzheng Automobile
Manufacturing Plant in Xingtai City. On September 28, 2001, he was arrested for
copying and distributing Falun Gong truth clarifying information. He was given a
sentence of nine years and is detained in the No. 5 Ward. The gross mistreatment he received: From September 28 to November 21 in 2001,
that is for nearly two months, he was tortured and interrogated. During that
time the police, led by the deputy chief from the Political and Judiciary
Committee in the Xingtai City Police Department, brutally beat and otherwise
tortured him. They put a four-legged chair on Mr. Xia's back and then had a
person sit on the chair. They used electric batons to violently shock him. When
his mouth bled from the beating, the police stuffed a blood-soaked towel into
his mouth. Then they affixed him to a metal chair, specifically made to torture
Falun Gong practitioners. He was locked there for three days and nights. The
police used a square wooden stick, one inch wide and over 600 mm long (60 cm,
about ?yard), to beat him on his back and legs for a long time. Those areas
became black and blue, and he suffered from unbearable pain. The police also
used leather belts to slap him on his head and body. As a result, his ears
severely swelled. On November 17, Wei Jimo used a wooden stick to fiercely beat
Mr. Xia's head. The wooden stick was shattered into pieces upon impact. After
that, Wei kicked Mr. Xia's head with his boot, making Mr. Xia's head bleed
badly. The police also produced a falsified video to delude people. In March
2003, while in the forced brainwashing center held by the No. 4 Prison, four
criminal inmates were instructed to closely monitor him and forced him to sit on
a chair, which was flipped over with the legs pointing up. Mr. Xia was not
allowed to sleep continuously for five whole days. Mr. Lei Zhongfu, 48 years old, is a resident of the No. 6 Building, 21st
Compound, Touhechanbeili, Chaoyang District, Beijing. On March 9, 2002, he was
arrested at his home and given a sentence of three years. After that day he was
detained in the brainwashing center for ten days that was specifically
established in the Tongzhou District for persecuting Falun Gong. In the
brainwashing center he was forbidden to sleep and was also beaten up. Almost ten
people participated in one of the most severe beating incidents, attacking him
with shoes, broom handles and fists, and slapping him on his ears. Besides this
torture, another group of people, more than ten of them, pushed him to the floor
and used force to hold his hand to write a Falun Gong dissociation letter.
Because he was crushed by so many people, Mr. Lei almost died. Several hours
passed before he recovered a little. After that, he had chest pains for over one
month. Inside the brainwashing center, they also initiated a series of
activities to try to brainwash Mr. Lei. They also forced him to watch many
videos that slandered Falun Dafa. Then they made him write down his thoughts.
The guards confiscated most of the money that Mr. Lei's family members sent him.
Having to sleep on the concrete floor made Mr. Lei suffer from scabies, eczema,
and dermatitis for almost two years. Mr. Liu Huimin, 36 years old, is a cadre from the Qinglong County Government
Guesthouse, Qinhuangdao City. On August 2, 2000, he was arrested because he told
the government the truth about the persecution that his fellow practitioners had
been subjected to and about how Falun Gong had been framed. He was given a
sentence of five years and is now detained in the No. 5 Ward. On August 20,
2000, he staged a hunger strike to protest the persecution. As a result,
detention center director Wang Jin and deputy director Zhang Xi and some guards
beat him severely. From April to June 2001 the criminal inmates beat him up
twice. The beatings ruptured a membrane in one of his ears and affected his
hearing. From March to April in 2002, he was detained in the brainwashing
center, where one of his left ribs was broken due to the beatings. Mr. Guo Hongshan, 48 years old, is an employee of the security section at the
Yaohua Glass Factory in Qinhuangdao City, which is located in Building 18,
Complex 156, Dongbeili, the Linggang District. On May 14, 2001 the police
arrested him at his home and then gave him a sentence of ten years. He is
detained in the No. 11 Ward. Prior to that, in October 1999, he and his wife
went to Beijing to appeal and were thus arrested. He was detained for 30 days,
during which time he suffered from all kinds of torture. The Electric Machinery
Factory fired his wife. In February 2000, he was illegally detained for 45 days
and as result, his employer terminated his employment. After the detention he
was sent to a brainwashing center that was completely isolated from the outside
world. On May 14, 2001, the police tricked him into coming to the police department
and tried to force him to admit to some crimes he did not commit. He
determinedly refused, so the police beat him up. During the beating, seven or
eight policemen used wooden sticks and leather belts to beat him so hard that
the sticks and the belts broke. The beating lasted for seven to eight hours. He
lost awareness many times and his body was covered with wounds. The police also
cuffed him onto a specifically made metal chair. While he was incarcerated in
the detention center, his wife went to police department director Peng to
petition for his release. As a result, his wife was sent to a mental hospital
where she was tortured for ten months. In the neighborhood where he lived,
another Falun Gong practitioner named Zhang Deyi, who lived in Unit 1, 33
Building, Qiaodongnanli was sentenced to three years of forced labor. The
vicious perpetrators sent him to the Tangshan City Mental Hospital for resisting
the persecution in the labor camp. Mr. Niu Mingang, 40 years old, lived in Apartment 18-3-503, the Shijiazhuang
City Railroad residential complex. He was the associate president of the
Railroad's Yunda Freight Transportation Station, the east location. On March 3,
2001, the police got him to come out of his home, arrested him and sentenced him
to twelve years. He is detained in the No. 8 Ward. After that day he was
illegally detained in the police station for five days. On November 14, 2001,
the police inside the guesthouse, which is located east to South Tiyu Street,
bragged during the beating, "Many of you Falun Gong persons were beaten to
death. There is an order from the top that the Falun Gong practitioners who are
beaten to death are all declared as having committed suicide!" On July 20,
1999, Mr. Niu went to the provincial government to petition for Falun Gong. The
provincial government personnel did not care and said that, "Beijing made
the decision." So, the Falun Gong practitioners decided to go to Beijing to
appeal. To prevent them from going to Beijing, the police beat them. The railroad station fired Mr. Niu from his position and from the railroad
system. He was given a one-year grace period. In the first eighteen days of
November 2001, the police locked him onto a metal chair inside Room 104 of the
guesthouse. His hands were cuffed and he was not allowed to sleep. Yan Shengkai,
associate chief of the Political and Security Division from the Xinhua Police
Station instructed his people to handcuff him tightly many times, for eight to
twelve hours each time. He was slapped many times. The police tortured him many
times by using fire or smoke to hurt him, burning him with a lighted cigarette,
shocking him with electric batons and lashing him with leather belts. They also
used wood-handled shoe-cleaning brushes to beat him on his head many times. The
police also otherwise punched and kicked him and resorted to many other,
unimaginable torturing ways, such as using needles to pierce his fingers. Even
now, he is unable to move or walk steadily. He often feels pain, numbness and
swelling in his hands and feet. Mr. Guo Zhijiang is 43 years old and is from Shenzhou City, Hebei Province.
He was abducted on December 22, 2000, for sending out materials telling the
truth about Falun Dafa being persecuted. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison
and incarcerated in the No.5 Ward. Following are details about the abuses he
endured: In the detention center the perpetrators tried to extort a confession
through the use of torture. They subjected him to brutal beatings and used
additional torture devices just because he practiced Falun Gong. He was also
forced to do manual labor for so many hours that it was beyond the limit of his
physical endurance. The warden was behind the torture. Mr. Guo was brutally
beaten and locked in a confinement cell for 15 day for practicing Falun Gong. Mr. Liu Huanjie is from Xiaoheliu Village, Qiantong Township, Yanshan County.
He was arrested in 2002 and imprisoned in the No.5 Ward. This is his persecution
situation: On the 2001 New Year's Day, Jiang's regime decreed forced
assignments, that each employment unit and each person must apprehend a certain
number of Falun Dafa practitioners. On January 3, because the local police could
not meet their assigned quota, they searched Mr. Liu's home and took away all of
his belongings. He was forced to become homeless, wandering about, to avoid
recapture and further persecution. In 2002, in the middle of the night, the
Cangzhou Municipal Police Department, together with the Yanshan County Police
Department, without following any legal procedures, climbed over the yard wall
where he was staying temporarily, and arrested Mr. Liu and his family members
and took them to the police department. They made the arrest before they had any
evidence. From September 29 to October 3, the police interrogated them under
torture, in a hurry, and deprived them of sleep for four days and nights. From
October 9 to October 21, they were handcuffed in the basement (the torturing
devices were specially made to torture Falun Dafa practitioners) and were
deprived of sleep for 12 days. They used various torture methods to extort the
answers they wanted. On May 15, 2003, during the SARS period, Mr. Liu was sent
to the Cangnan Prison and was locked up there in a confinement cell for half a
month with the excuse "for medical isolation." He was often not given
any food. He went on hunger strike to protest. On May 30, 2003, evaluating that
he had stopped eating and drinking fluids for five days he was sent back to the
prison; On June 2 he was sent for forced brainwashing where he suffered physical
punishment, sleep deprivation and other tortures. Mr. Guo Zhengqing is 44 years old and is from Shihuli Village, Duanjiabao
Township, Huayuan District, Zhangjiakou City. On April 25, 2001, he was arrested
because he held up a banner in Tiananmen Square and he was sentenced to a
three-year prison term and was locked up in the No. 5 Ward. On April 2, 2001, on
Jinshuiqiao Bridge of Tiananmen, he unfolded a .7 meter wide and over 5 meters
long banner. The wording said, "Practicing Falun Gong is a Human Being's
Right." He was apprehended and put into a vehicle. In the vehicle, when he
opened a window and shouted out loudly, "Falun Dafa is great," his
face received a heavy blow and his left eye was also hit; some blood vessels
inside his head were torn from the blow and his nose oozed dark blood for three
days. In the Zhangjiakou City liaison office in Beijing the personnel kicked him
and made his right eye and the right side of his face swell. In Xuanhuaxian
County's detention center he was brutally beaten by 19 criminal prisoners. In
Zhangjiakou City's Shaziling prison he was kicked, with blood flowing from his
mouth. In the fourth prison the warden brutally beat him, as did criminal
prisoners, for as many as 15 times. One time the beating was so severe that he
could not move for several days. Mr. Zhang Zhiquan is 70 over years old and is from Hengshui City, Hebei
Province. He was sentenced to a seven-year prison term and imprisoned in the
No.5 Ward. His persecution circumstances: Because he spoke out in defense of
Falun Gong, the authorities in Shenzhen City framed him as a "backer of
Falun Gong." They arbitrarily connected many people that he did not know
with many things that he had nothing to do with. This enabled them to fabricate
charges against Falun Gong, calling it an "organized activity." This
over 70-year-old man was imprisoned for over three years and suffered physical
torture and mental torment, including "being the prisoner of the
prisoners" and so on. The government ignored his appeal, held on to the
written verdict for over two years, and still has not returned it. In accordance
with the law relating to prisons, he sent 13 long letters to the central
government, to explain that Falun Dafa is the righteous Fa. It has been over one
year since he sent the first letter, but he still has not received any response.
After he sent the letters to the leaders of the country, he did not receive any
letters from his family; his normal correspondence and correspondence with his
family has been cut off. Mr. Han Weixin is 39 years old. He was the head of the transportation
administration office of Anxin County, Baoding City, Hebei Province; his home
address is 6 Zhujiakeng, Anxin Town. He was arrested in May of 2002 and was
sentenced to 15 years in prison. He was imprisoned in the No. 4 Ward. Mr. Li Mingtao is 34 years old and was an employee of the China Construction
Bank, Handan Division. His family lives at No. 48 Xinxingdajie Avenue, Congtaiqu
District, Handan City, in the residential area of the construction bank at
Chaoyang Street. He was arrested on August 25, 2001, sentenced to 11 years in
prison, and imprisoned in the No. 4 Ward. His persecution circumstances: By the
end of 2003, in the forced brainwashing of the fourth prison, Zhao Jun, a
policeman from the education department pounded metal nails into four fingers of
his left hand. Mr. He Lin was from Lijiazhuang Village, Linzhang Town, Linzhang County,
Handan City. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison and was imprisoned in the
No. 4 Ward. Mr. Du Jingyi is from Sanyihe Village, Maquanzi Town, Qinglong County. He was
sentenced to seven years in prison and imprisoned in the No. 4 Ward. Mr. Li Tianyong lived in Dormitory 1-1-301, in the residential area of the
municipal administration at Xinhua Street, Qingnian Road, Baoding City. He was a
doctoral student in Viral Disease Anticipatory Control, China Prevention Medical
College, the Beijing Ministry of Public Health. He was sentenced to four years
in prison and he is imprisoned in the No. 4 Ward. Mr. Hou Guorui is 24 years old and is from Houliuma Village, Damashen
Township, the Taocheng District, Hengshui City. He was abducted on December 22,
2000, was sentenced to four years in prison, and is incarcerated in the No. 13
Ward. Mr. Liu Jun is 33 years old and lived at 18 Qingnian Street, Congtai
District, Handan City. He was arrested on August 26, 2001, was sentenced to 11
years in prison, and is in the No. 13 Ward. Mr. Jin Hui is 34 years old. He lived at the Wujinyuan dormitory, 158
Langfang Guangmingxi Ave. He was arrested on June 2, 2001, and was sentenced to
an eight-year prison term; he was imprisoned in the No. 13 Ward. Mr. Wang Shuwen is 49 years old and lived at 18 Xiangyang Street, Pingquan
County. He was arrested on December 20, 2000, and was sentenced to four years in
prison. He is imprisoned in the No. 13 Ward. December 26, 2004

several other policemen; the No. 6 Ward: head Yang Baoguo and policeman Li
Zhilin.
