On December 19, 2004, the Guiyang County Court sentenced Mr. Yan Yong to four years and Mr. Li Zhanxian to three and a half years in prison for their involvement in producing and distributing Falun Dafa materials. According to their families, when they called to ask related personnel in the court why they were sentenced, the answer was: "We do not want to do this either, but the pressure from above is enormous."

In 2004, practitioner Ms. Cao Pingqin, an employee at Guiyang County Baoshan Lead-zinc Mine, was turned in by the director of retirement office, Zhou Tiansheng, for distributing truth-clarifying materials at work. After receiving the report, the security division immediately reported to the National Security Division in Guiyang County. Very soon after, Cao Pingqin and her husband Yan Yong were arrested on July 27.

On August 19, 2004, practitioner Li Zhanxian was abducted on his way to work.

All three practitioners mentioned above have been tortured to different extents after their arrests. Li Zhanxian was handcuffed and hung up for five days by Guiyang National Security Brigade police. Yan Yong was not allowed to drink water or sleep for five days. After Cao Pingqin was sent to the detention center, police incited the guards to beat her until her face was black and blue.

On October 15, Guiyang County Court opened a trial against Yan Yong and Li Zhanxian. During the trial, the two practitioners defended themselves and exposed the illegal torture methods used by the National Security Brigade. Their lawyers also defended them by presenting evidence that the National Security Brigade officers interrogated them with threats and physical torture. After a five-hour hearing, the public prosecutor concluded the hearing without delivering any verdict. However, on December 19, the court still sentenced Yan Yong to four years and Li Zhanxian to three and a half years in prison for producing and distributing Falun Dafa materials.

Officials from all levels including county, city and province are very nervous about this case and have listed it as a "special big case."

Yan Yong is an excellent worker. His employer, the Guiyang County Industrial and Commercial Bank, as well as its supervisor, the city bank, are both very pleased with his performance. However, the provincial bank repeatedly pressured the county bank to terminate his work contract. As a result, the county bank had to terminate his work contract even before they received the final verdict. In addition, on November 30, Liu Daolun, from the provincial propaganda department, personally traveled to the Guiyang County 610 Office to ensure that the work contract was terminated. On the same day, Cao Pingqin was also sentenced to one year in a labor camp. She has since been bailed out and has returned home. At present, both Yan Yong and Li Zhanxian refuse to accept the unlawful verdict and are planning to appeal.
