Letters to the editor
February 03. 2005EDITOR: As a longtime reader and admirer of the Star-News, I was very
surprised to see the Jan. 21 Associated Press article "Chinese government
shows off repentant Falun Gong followers."
This article was given to the AP directly from the Chinese Communist
government, which allows no freedom of press.
International Human Rights organizations such as Amnesty International and
Human Rights organizations, along with the U.S. House of Representatives,
have already condemned the persecution of Falun Gong by the Chinese
government.
The "self-immolation" incident reported in the article has already been
renounced worldwide as a hoax by the Chinese Communist Party to further
implicate and persecute Falun Gong.
I was very disappointed that the article gave no real opposing opinion to
that of the Chinese Communist Party. Given that the Chinese government is
currently waging what has been increasingly been called genocide by
international observers against Falun Gong, it would seem impossible to get
an objective viewpoint simply by quoting the Chinese government's point of
view.
