The Persecution Experience of Zhang Jie, Teacher at the Work and Technical School of Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Zhang Jie, a teacher at Xi'an City Work and Technical School, has been practicing Falun Gong since 1997, and has benefited both physically and mentally.

In September of 2000 when Zhang Jie was the Teacher-in-charge in the City Work and Technical School, her title was annulled because she told her students to follow "Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance," the principles of Falun Gong to uphold a high moral standard and to become better people. In December of 2000, Zhang Jie planned to go to Beijing to appeal. The leaders of her unit found out about her plan and sent people to her house, and deceived her into going to the office to attend a "Communist Party meeting." They subsequently arrested her and sent her to Shapo Detention Center.

Zhang Jie was released from Shapo Detention Center after a seven-day hunger strike. Her work unit continued to deny her right of freedom of belief and freedom of speech. In the end of December 2000, Zhang Jie went to Beijing to appeal. She was detained in the Beijing Detention Center, where she was physically and mentally abused. Later she was transferred to Hebei Detention Center. The police extorted 5,000 yuan from her family before they released her, and did not give them a receipt.

In January of 2001, Zhang Jie was arrested and sentenced to two years of forced labor. During the time she was at the Shaanxi Province Women's Forced Labor Camp, Zhang Jie submitted an appeal twice, and both times it was turned down. Since then she has suffered different kinds of cruel torture. She has been beaten, hit by police baton, forced to wear strait jackets, had both of her hands tied behind her back, forced to stand up facing the wall for several days and nights, deprived of sleep, held in solitary confinement for two and a half months, and force fed. During the two years of forced labor, her unit never paid her any living costs.

In March 2003, Zhang Jie was released from the forced labor camp. Just two months after she returned to work, she was forcibly taken to a brainwashing center. When she wrote out her thoughts that "Falun Dafa is good", she was threatened,

confined, and not allowed to leave the class. She was released after three months of imprisonment. During October of 2003, Zhang Jie submitted a report of her own persecution experience and disclosed the facts of how the local authorities cruelly tortured Falun Gong practitioners. She declared all the announcements that were written under pressure to be null and void. She gave them a truth-clarifying CD that exposed the staged Tiananmen Square self-immolation, and because of that she was forcibly taken to the brainwashing center and illegally detained for more than half a year. During that time, she was confined, and both physically and mentally abused by the 610 Office's brainwashing center officials.

At the end of April 2004, Zhang Jie was released from the 610 Office Brainwashing Center. Because of her persistence in following Falun Gong's principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance" and refusal to sign documents giving up the practice, she was forced to resign. At present, some personnel from the Taiyi Road Office and the Shapo Police Station still constantly go to her house to harass her.
