Final Trial for the "Obstruction Case" Imminent; Falun Gong Practitioners in Hong Kong Clarify the Truth and Send Forth Righteous Thoughts

Three years ago, on March 14, 2002, four Falun Gong practitioners from Switzerland and twelve native Hong Kong practitioners went to the China Liaison Office in Hong Kong and held a peaceful sit-down protest. They appealed for Jiang Zemin to end his murder of Falun Gong practitioners in Mainland China with his secret order to "kill without mercy." The Hong Kong SAR government was controlled by Jiang's regime and received great pressure to arrest the practitioners. Because of the pressure, the Hong Kong government ignored the law, human rights and freedom and sent more than 60 police officers to violently arrest the practitioners. Nine practitioners were injured because the police used violence and pinched them on their acupuncture points. The Hong Kong government also trumped up charges against the innocent practitioners, including "obstruction of street traffic," "obstruction of official duty" and "assaulting police."

The Hong Kong government borrowed all of the methods the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) used and is still using to persecute innocent people -- slander, framing, willful misinterpretation of the law, illegal arrest, illegal detention, distortion of facts, and other illegal strategies. The Hong Kong government turned the peaceful appeal, an act of justice, into "obstruction of street traffic" and other charges, which attracted worldwide attention.

In June 2002, the obstruction case opened in the Western Magistracy, and the trial lasted 26 days. During the trial, the security officials from the Chinese Liaison Office and several Hong Kong police officers lied in court, the plaintiff's lawyer was highly unreasonable, and the judge showed apparent bias toward the plaintiff's lawyer. He convicted the practitioners of all the charges without solid factual and legal evidence.

The practitioners refused to accept the verdict and refused to pay the fine. They immediately appealed to the High Court of Appeals. In early September 2003, a trial was held lasting three days, and the obstruction charge was overturned in November 2004. The judge pointed out that the lower court judge did not fully consider citizens' rights to gather and appeal but only emphasized the rights of pedestrians. He solemnly pointed out that the lower court judge was being unfair; however, he maintained the charges of "obstruction of public duty" and "assaulting police." The practitioners decided to file the case with the Court of Final Appeal. That hearing will be held on April 4, April 6 and April 7.

After the incident took place, one notion severely impeded us from effectively eliminating the evil elements behind this case. Many practitioners, including those who were and were not involved, thought the incident took place because the practitioners didn't do well, but they didn't realize it was the persecution of Dafa by the old forces and the CCP evil spirit. It is true that the practitioners had serious omissions and they had a competitive mentality and were not rational enough when validating Dafa, all of which are things they should identify and get rid of. We should, however, not allow the evil to persecute Dafa practitioners and destroy sentient beings by using and testing Dafa practitioners as an excuse. The evil has no right to test us, because Teacher is in charge of us. If we acknowledge that our omissions caused the persecution, it's the same as acknowledging the persecution itself; then we won't be able to identify the evil or eliminate the evil. Of course it does not mean we shouldn't look inward and get rid of our attachments.

At the same time, we increasingly understand that the lawsuit is a process to clarify the truth and help sentient beings to position themselves. We are not attached to loss and gain in ordinary society. As Fa-rectification period Dafa disciples, we are compassionate to sentient beings in any environment, and anything we do is to offer people salvation. It is an opportunity for the court, the Hong Kong government and the public to see the evil nature of the CCP and to position themselves for the future. As Dafa practitioners, we must do well.

During the whole persecution, the perpetrators tried to cut us off financially and tried to force us to pay expensive litigation fees, so Dafa practitioners will be financially strapped. We absolutely cannot acknowledge this vicious plan. We hope practitioners in Hong Kong can all pay attention to the final hearing on April 4, April 6 and April 7, and we hope that practitioners in other places can support us with righteous thoughts and together, eliminate the remaining evil elements.
