Finland: People of Helsinki Learn the Truth about the Persecution of Falun Gong (Photos)
By a Finnish practitioner
(Clearwisdom.net) On August 9th, 2005, Falun Gong practitioners in
Finland and Sweden held an information day at the Esplanade Park in Helsinki,
where they informed local people, as well as tourists visiting Finland, about
the persecution of Falun Gong taking place in China. By reading the information
boards, people could learn what kind of torture methods are used on
practitioners to force them to give up their practice and their belief in the
universal principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance. Six years ago, on July 20th 1999, China's head of state Jiang Zemin branded
100 million citizens as criminals. Fearing that Falun Gong's widespread
popularity was overshadowing his own legacy, Jiang ordered that this traditional
Chinese practice be "eradicated". The Falun Dafa Information Centre
has verified details of 2,676 deaths since the persecution of Falun Gong in
China began. Hundreds of thousands have been detained, with more than 100,000
being sentenced to forced labor camps, typically without trial. During these six
years, countless families have been separated and children have lost their
parents. On this hot day, many people came out to stroll in the park. To support the
end of this persecution, people had the opportunity to sign their names on a
petition. After learning the truth, many people signed their names. A lady from
an NGO organization said she was happy that Falun Gong practitioners had taken
the initiative to inform the public about the human rights situation in China
and she was pleased to give her support. One gentleman came and asked how many
members there were in the Chinese Communist party, and when learning the truth
he was horrified and said, "So few people are doing so many evil deeds
against their own citizens. So terrifying."
